If only one grease
If you had only one grease gun, what cartridge would you put in it? Is there an all-in-one grease? The thing I grease the most is ball joints. What's the best grease for that?
Thanks.
Thanks.

For the extra $1 a tube I think the higher temp rating of moly grease is worth it. That's my all-in-one, good for guns too.
I stayed in Orono last year, beautiful area!

jbtvt,
Thanks for the word. If you're in Orono again this summer (if it ever arrives), send me a message and we'll get a beer and talk Tacos. I'll just whine about wanting a V6 4x4.

I settled on moly grease long ago. Ball joints and certain u-joints require it, and over 16 years and 4 Toyota 4WD vehicles there's never been a problem. Currently have Valvoline Synpower in the grease gun, one of the few "synthetic" greases that has moly.

Not really. If there is no grease in the joint, adding any grease is better than letting it go with no grease. Pretty much any grease is better than letting them go dry. Even buttery crisco is better than dry.
There is a pretty good episode of vice about an african trucking company where the drivers, if they lose their gear oil, they stuff bananas in the diff. Any lube is better than no lube.
If you are just low on grease, and add an incompatible grease, then yes, you can make it worse, but if the joint is already washed out of grease, then anything is better.

You're supposed to re-grease the drivetrain every time you go into water or the mud. Or technically if it rains much. Marine grease may last longer, but you should still grease it regularly.

absolutely! after being upside down for a while and loose most of your oil and have to borrow 3 or 4 different qts. off your buddies ill use anything to get it topped off. even a little gear oil helps bring the level up.
