Ideas for squealing brakes

Now I had this set of front ceramic pads sitting in a box for years. First time I tried them was in Winter 2004 and they squealed like crazy. I figured they weren’t warming up enough. Put them on again few days ago, same thing, but since it’s summer I can actually feel that they work much better than stock pads.

If I let go off the wheel and brake normally at a traffic light it will go at a 45 degree angle to the left (left side has ceramic right side has standard). So they definitely bite better.

I tried the squeal-stop goop from an auto place. That was few bucks down the drain. So now I’m thinking: maybe update the pieces that go on the back of the brake pads? There’s one made out of something that looks like not metal with holes in it, and one out of stainless steel. Do those sell separately? Upgraded design since ’99?

Read it again. I'm pulling to the left because only the left side has ceramic pads.

Read it again. I do have OEM. I had ceramic sitting in a box.

That's the first time I ever heard of ceramics not performing in cold, and certainly didn’t have any problems when I had them in the winter. Did you read that somewhere with the same “attention” as you read my post? Or did you just make that up right now?

If you switch to ceramic pads, it's wise to turn the rotors. If not you may get a shudder for a while (and screech and squeal,) and the new pads may not 'season' properly. It's also very important to properly burnish the new pads.

Never heard of any problems or safety issues with ceramic pads.

Carbon pads, now THAT's another story, they would be very hard to get up to temp on a street vehicle - but I doubt they are available to fit 4x4 Yotas.
