One major point to my thread is the fact that i mainly drive only 2 or 3 miles at a time. also, temperatures around here rarely go below 55 deg.

my idea: would disabling the cold start injector be of any way to increase gas milage? since every time i use my truck the cold start injectors are inreasing gas usage to warm the engine up. would this work or are they really needed until the engine is up to normal operating temp?

As for me im planning on puting in an electric fan.& better air filter.

Start with a tuneup for your rig, new fuel filter, clean your MAF and especially your throttle body . You may want to drop in a can of BG 44K in 2 consecutive tankfuls. The first tank to loosen the deposits and the second tank to wash 'em all out. I gained an extra 10-15 miles per tank since I did that. I'm not sure if it's because of the BG 44K or becuase of the re-formulation of gasoline for the summer months. PM "TOR" from this forum for a couple cans. He's hooked up a lot of folks on the forum with many Yota parts for cheap! Hope that's a start...

Cold start injector will not affect mpg at all unless it is leaking.
I would do the tuneup stuff as mentioned to increase mpg instead.

I wouldn't disconnect it.The computer take into account ambient temp.when trying to start the engnie changing injector pulse width .I think just staying with the basic is the best bet.Properly tuned/tire pressure/easy on the gas pedal off the line.
BTW, i just got back from my first trip in mine and got 18.8 mpg.And that was up a 5 mile grade and four wheeling with the a/c on most of the way.I'm very impressed.Around town on my first tank i only got 11.6.

Ride a bike? That seems like a short trip. The computer does take into account the temperature to make starting adjustments, so I don't think that is going to help.

Your truck would likely become very hard to start when it is cold. The excessive cranking will just kill your starting system sooner. Or, if it never gets that cold, the injector is functioning for very short periods of time hence gains will be minimal if at all.

I think you should be happy you only have to go a few miles. (I can't wait until I'm in a position to move closer to work) Don't you find you have a considerable amount of time between fillups? Is this really hurting the wallet that much? Even if you installed a block heater, which is what you really need, you'd spend your dough on electricity 'cause energy is energy and it costs one way or another.

At 3 miles, I'd say ride a bicycle. Or, get some motorized 2 wheeled transpo. You'd hardly ever have to fill it up and it only takes a few bucks when you do. It will save wear and tear on the truck and can be fun on the weekends too.

I doubt you'll see any gain from this mod, but it's easy enough to try out.

Tire pressure, now that will give you a very real impact on gas mileage. Air down for trails, but keep the pressure up for running around on the asphalt.
