I see the light!

Well it took me 3.5 hours, but I finally wired up one set of my fogs up front. Yeah... I know I'm a tool for carting around with the fog lamps on my truck and not even working, but I had planned to do this a long time ago, but badluck in modding, fear of electronics, and time conflicts got in the way.

The lamps are just some walmart ones, with the least bright halogens you can buy installed (I think H3??? I know brighter ones were included). I had planned to use these in conjunction with my headlights, mostly for looks, but also because the headlights aren't the brightest. Well, I drove down to the bottom of my couldesac, hung a right and flipped them on. I saw to the end of the road!

Needless to say, they are too bright for street use, which is kind of a downer (maybe that's why the packaging said "Offroad use only" or maybe I just have to aim them further down?). I think I will keep the bulbs in though, and when I wire my Hella's I will use those for full blast effect. There are still a few neighborhoods around here that are unlit, and not traveled too often that I can throw these suckers on for a little bit.

Anyway, thought I'd share one of the few mods I've done that was successful on the first go. I will try and get some pics this week.

Glad to hear you got your foglights all wired up. I am thinking of purchasing a set of Hella's but not sure if I should go for the fogs or driving lights.

Good to hear you got them hooked up alright. The reason they are brighter is because of the shape of the reflective lens. The lights you have probably concentrate most of the light into a small area much like a spotlight, whereas headlights distribute the light over a larger area.

Vato, as far as I know the hella's I have are driving lights, which when they were on my dad's Merkur could light up for 1500 ft according to my dad. They basically turned night into day, which was perfect for when he was going across arizona/nevada late at night/early in the morning.

CUbuffrunner, that sounds about right. There are no directional markings on the lenses of the lights, not like my hella's or headlights so that definately would make sense.

Nice work on the lights. A good mod that I just did to my lights was to wire the driving lights up to the high beams. Basically you use the high beam power as the switch for the driving lights, so the driving lights come on with your high beam lights and are off at any other time. My interior switch no longer does anything, though. The fog lights are still independent of the headlights, but a person could wire up those the same or with the low beams if they wanted.
