I need front rotors.

TOYOTA has them for 102 dollars a piece.

CHECKERS has them for 40 dollars, though I think they're sold in pairs.

Is it worth it to pay for the genuine parts? Are they that much better?

I don't think it's worth an extra $120. Mine were $37 a piece at Napa so I think the $40 is per rotor. I just used the ones from Napa along with Toyota grease seals. I haven't had any problems but they've only been on for about 2K miles.

Nice....

So it's $100 per pair, meaning both sides??

Are the combos worth the extra $75?

Also, do I need pads if I'm changing the rotors or only if they're worn out?

(I've never done any brake shops, keep that in mind).........

You might as well replace them while you are in there. It isn't a very big expense, and will save you some hassle in the future.

A bearing packer to pack the front bearings with grease, 4 pads (2 per side), grease seals like you said, rotors like you said....I think that is it.

There's 2 pads per side? I must be dumber than what I had actually thought.

So I just ask the TOYOTA guy for a "bearing packer"?

You can pack the bearings by hand. It just takes a minute. If I were you, I would have someone that has done a full brake job with you when you tackle this project. My buddy helped me do mine and it really helps to be able to bounce ideas and questions off him when you aren't sure about something.

I'm not sure about the bearing packer. I've never used one before. I don't think it will be a dealer item though.

About the pads, they are sold in pairs. Just tell him you need front pads. When I did my brake job I didn't change my pads because they were only about 10K old and still had about 1/4" left until the wear tab.

Good Luck

Front End Maintenence

If you have manual hubs, you might want to get parts to rebuild those too since you're going to have to take them off anyway. I think you might need a pair of new star washers, but it's been so long since I've done mine I can't remember if I replaced them or not. Make sure you have a 54mm or 2 1/8" socket. That's all I can think of for now. Good luck getting that rotor off... mine was a bitch and a half.

PB Blaster is your friend. Mine were a piece of cake. It may have had something to do with them being off only 10K ago.

Thanks for all the advice.

Now, I'm just looking for the better of four prices, locally.

By the way, it's not manual hubs.

I used a 5 pound rubber hammer to beat on the bottom of the disc surface and the thing popped and kinked over and loosened right up, yes PB Blaster helped a little.
