Hub noise

Has anybody had a problem with their add hubs making an intermintent rubbing sound when it's cold outside? It's kind of a waa waa waa waa sound, exuse the discription. It's a 91 4runner v6 stock.

add should not really make noise. Allthe hub is, is a plate that fits over the axle shaft and bolts on. More than likely something else is making the noise. (controls arms , cv shaft, ball joints, anything front suspension)

i know the sound very well. it's not the hub, that's just a flange that's always locked. my guess is that the sound is the cv joints. the grease isn't warm and flowing so there's probably a little metal-metal contact. i've never worried about it. i have 140k on my '90 and never had any issues (other than the head gasket)

same problem hear it is the outer c.v.joint when you drive it the grease heats up and when you park for the night the grease sinks to the bottom of the boot and then thickins up when you go out to it drive it there is no grease at the top so thats what you hear buy manual hubs save gas

I bought some mile marker hubs allready.I've got them on my 87 and they work great.I figured it was the cv's but thought I'd buy the cheaper of the two first.Any idea how much gas they save on the v6?Not that it could get any worse.

Hub noise

Well, I found out what was making the noise,It's the spindle. It was a $90 job at the dealer. They just regreased it and the noise stopped. The guy said 90% of the time you truck makes that noise then that's what it is.

What do you mean by the spindle? Is that hub bearing? Mine makes a similiar noise and it doesn't matter if it is cold or not.

Mine makes that noise as well. It started happening after I got into an accident and my left control arm, brake caliper, sway bar link, and rotor broke. I had those replaced. The 4wd drive works, but after I take it out of 4wd, it makes that noise for a few days and then it goes away. It does it mainly in speeds under 50mph. I always wondered what it was and it's funny that you mention the spindle because when my mechanic was changing the front brakes he mentioned that the spindle looked bent. I thought it looked a little off as well. Could this cause the problem? Any other suggestions.
