You can check the timing marks on your timing belt, but the computer controls the engine's ignition timing. You can also verify what the current advance is on the engine by using a timing light but it's alot easier just to use a higher end OBD scanner like an Auterra or similar to view current advance via the ECU instead.

Thanks - iwas afraid it was more complicated than I wanted. Luckily I don't have any reason to suspect timing is out except that it has been 7 years. Gonna dig out my cheap HF scanner and see if it has enough functions to look at the timing
