How to replace a power attannae in a Gen3 4Runner
Hello All, I am new to this site, but I am glad there is such a forum for us 4Runner owners. Anyway, I have included a pic of my 1997 Supercharged SR5. I will include a detailed additions list at a later date. My Power antannae is making this god aweful clicking and crunching noise as it attempted to retract or extend itself. Especially needs help if it wants to retract. Thinking of putting a rubber ducky antannae in there, but I am unsure how to get into the sheet metal. Anyway help is appreciated. Thanks

Bob is a professional genius at doing writeups. Awesome bro. I love my power antanae. Mine came with the whip, so I put a power one on. Yes, I'm disappointed the plastic teeth broke off in the motor after 2 years. At least I figured out how to crack the motor open and take out the teeth, and refeed the plastic tail in. I'll keep doing it until I get tired of ripping it apart. Welcome aboard toyofreak.

that happened to me only once so far, about a year ago.
It took me a couple tries but I eventually got it.
- pull antenna motor (after unscrewing the bezel on the fender)
- break open the motor carefully
- remove all the plastic teef and broken zip cord
- put motor cover back on
- mount motor back in
- feed new antenna zipcord into motor with teeth facing front of car (I think) use logic to reason which way the teeth should face to catch on gear in motor
- turn stereo off and antenna should get pulled in (be ready to quickly "help" the mast into the hole or the motor will sense the resistance and spit it back out
- screw bezel back on once the antenna gets pulled in
- once everything works ok then put splash guard back in
It took me a couple tries but I eventually got it.
