How to protect catalytic converter from theft?

Razor wire might deter someone.
But I wonder if the thief could by chance SUE you for damages to his hand? There are some crooked enough lawyers out there that just might be able to win that case.
It all comes down to greed, like anything. Yes the cats are worth money, but its also breaking a federal law to remove one if it is still working. Once people figured out how to extract the precious metals, or at least be in contact with people who do, it turned into a big mess. Instead of just waiting for the cats to be removed by a shop, now they want people out full time stealing cats so they can get rich off it, and not care who it affects.
greed always wins, it may not affect everyone the same, but it always wins.

How about an alarm system rigged to an airbag suspension that when turned on, when someone crawl under the vehicle to cut the cat off the truck drops on top of them. Like a lowrider. Not that practical for offroad but its kinda cool. Of course then comes explaining the dead guy under your truck.

A shop down the street from my office had 7 cat's taken off various vehicles in one night. I work for an insurance corporation and from what I hear from estimator's. Is that imports have larger Cat's then domestic vehicles. Old Suzuki's and Toyota's have the largest stock cat's which contain larger amounts of platnium. There is a place in B.C that will take used Cat's off your hands....depending on make/model it come's from 300-500$ for Platinum.

As 2000t4rAKS mentioned above, converter theft is huge in California, particularly in Sacramento. If they want it, a thief is gonna get it. All you can do is make it harder for them so hopefully they'll see the trouble and move onto the next Ford or Chevy down the road.
I've heard of instances where they simply unbolted and wiggled the cat-converter out. I guess you could take an oversized socket and purposely strip the nuts on the muffler clamps...haha
