how much for your truck??

So has anyone else been spending a lot of money on their rigs? I've dropped so much into mine just on maintence and repairs its getting ridiculous.

$4500 for the truck
$900 waterpump
$700 clutch and clutch master cylinder
$450 tires (which i know are inevitable)
$800 brakes and wheel cylinders

$7350 total invested since 10/03

*this doesn't include the oil changes and of course gas (which is at about $2.15 in sac)

does this seem high?? i know ive been payin kind of a lot for all the repais but is my truck a maintence queen or just a spoiled brat??

Is that a solid gold water pump you got in that bad boy? I recently purchased a YIKES timming chain kit from ENGNBDR for $160 (water pump included)

what year is it? yeah thats pretty expensive water pump!!! what did you take it to the stealership and have them put it in?!?!?!?!?!

do yourself a favor, if you have the 3.0 and your thermostat goes out put in a new one yourself. its 3 bolts!!!! the thermostat itself is only about $20 at Toyota. they'd probably charge you $300 to put it in for you.

I've been waiting for a thread like this

Let me get my records of what I've had done since I've owned it (10 months)

$4,000 for the truck on 8/20/03

9/26/03

Idler = $122
Tensioner - $65
Waterpump bracket - 600
Waterpump $120
Timing belt - $40
A/C belt - $20
Alt. belt - $12
Parts for the above - $1,030
Labor for the above - $270,

Total of $1353 (I didn't add the oil change, seals, ect..)

6/5/04

Axle shaft boot kit - $15
Wire set - $68
Distributor cap/rotor - $23
Power steering box - $461

Parts for the above - $635
Labor for the above - $520

Total of $1,184 (once again, add a few minor things)

All of the above have been OEM parts except for the power steering box ($2500 for a factory box? No thanks)

As I type my truck is in the shop and should be done in a few days, this time the bill will be over a $1,000 again. Hopefully it won't need anything else fixed.

Mods:

Wheels/tires, body lift, and labor - about $2,000 (can't find the reciept)
Fiberglass cap, and rear sliding window installed - $1,000 (cap not on right now)
Stereo - $2,000
Tint - $200
Tint again - $100 (decided to get front window darker and get the whole windshield tinted)
Clear bumper lenses, H4 headlights - about $75

Add the $1500 (at least) I'll be paying when it comes out of the shop in a few days and that totals up to... (drums please)

$11,412

Anybody wanna buy it now?

I think I just did a rough estimate in my head of what I bought. I am sure it probably at least $300-400 more than that likely.
It makes you sad how much you sink into something and never will see it again ever. That's probably why most don't tally things up.

This is the question I am asking myself right now. My truck is 17 years old and I have dumped over $2,000 into the "300k mile truck" when I barely have over 100k on it. I have some wierd things going on in the front steering/braking, and don't know whether to sell the thing and go to something newer or just fix the brakes/steering which could be another couple hundred dollars, and pray that nothing else big goes wrong with it. College and a maintenance queen of a truck don't mix.

Certainly not. A car should never be something that warrants paying interest on.

That's debatable.

Only thing I've had to do since I got my 99 back in 11/03 is change the starter contacts and replace the original battery. Looks like i'll be tackling the rear axle seals soon enough though.

I put around $5k under the hood counting install and peripherals 3-4yrs ago and got stiffed by some shoddy work and just had to pay for back to back headgaskets. I have to keep telling myself that cars are tools in our mobile society and living in the middle of nowhere like GJ is you simply have to pay the price. I really want to put the same engine set up in my '93 4Runner, but frankly even thinking of that much $ sets me to now.
I just have to remind myself that this 4Runner essentially cost me $2700 and 150 Hot Wheels
