How much for a dyno run?

How much do you normally pay for a dyno run? I've only called one place so far but the price was $105. Without any prior experience, that seems pricey. I was planning on doing before and after the mods runs but I'm not about to spend over $200 to do it. So let me know what you guys normally pay.

keep calling around...
normally, dyno cost are: 3 pulls for $45 - $60 total.

The speed shop hear is like $80-$100 i think. for 2 runs but they dont have to be back to back runs. (or so they said)

so you can take a run... do your mods come back in a couple of weeks and do your second.

I paid $20 for 2 runs in Ft Collins a year back...so I think $105 is a but high. Mabyeb if you're tuning, it's about right....

$145 for a baseline session from the local guys:

"baseline" means:
"This includes up to six runs for establishing horsepower and torque output. Air/fuel ratio feature is also included with baseline session."
So, no dedicated tuning time.

They give discounts... 5 or more cars at $80 each, but those are just baseline runs, no tuning. I did this a couple of years ago when I put together a "dyno day".


What mods are you looking to do Steve?

These are what I just put it up on jack stands for so I guess I won't be doing a before dyno run now.

Cool. The reason I asked was to try to save you some money. Since so much of this stuff is bolt-on for our engines, there are dyno charts and numbers around already for a lot of it.

Questions!
What injector size are you going with? Who did the valve body mods? What TC did you go with?

the injectors are being cleaned and flow tested as we speak. They are 305's. And I'm in the process of pulling my valve body and torque converter to send to IPT. I just showered off the first coat of ATF (from myself that is).

Cool... Our drivetrains will be pretty similar. If you do end up dyno'ing it, I'd be interested to see how we match up. I'll be back to a dyno once I get my mister installed.

Do you have an idea of where John's going to setup the TC? Mine's setup as Flash = 3000, Stall = 3500. It drives a LOT different than stock. It'll take a bit to get used to.

I didn't get any numbers. I just told him what I wanted and he said he could make it do what I want. But alas, I think I've officially decided that i'm not up to the task of pulling the TC myself. I was up under there for a couple of hours today and although I've got about $30,000 in tools, transmissions are not really my specialty. So this mod will have to wait although I will still be doing everything else myself. I just ordered my limited slip this morning.

If it makes you feel any better, it took a buddy (a Toyota ace Master Mechanic) and I 11+ hours to pull the old tranny and put a new one in. The TC itself was about 3 minutes. We didn't have a lift, so we were only working off of jack stands - hindsight says that it would have gone faster with a lift.

fwiw, in the end, the total value of the tools actually required was maybe $100.

This thread has gone a little sideways but when I told my buddy that I'd been defeated by the thought of removing the TC myself he came over to take a peek. so to make a long story short, within about three hours I had my TC in my hands. So I'm back on track! WooHoo! But after we were done he crawled back underneath and once again helped me find my way. He said " if you're ever planning on doing headers, now's the time". Since it's hard to argue with logic like that I'll be making a phone call tomorrow. The updated all at once project now looks like:

1) Supercharger

2)Injectors

3)Plugs

4)URD piggyback

5)Fuel pump

6)Fuel filter

7)Tranny cooler

8)Valve body

9)Torque converter

10)Limited slip

11)headers

12) Custom exhaust (this is now the only thing I will have to pay someone to do)

13) If I'd known this $1700 supercharger was going to cost this much...
