Had my rotors , pads and rear shoes replaced on my 01 Tacom, 4x4, exten.cab, 79,000 miles with 31.5" tires and I'm still not happy with the stopping distance. I know they are not supposed to lock up but if a Deer jumped in front of me at say 25 yards and I'm doing 70 mph and I stand on the breaks how far would I travel before it came to a complete stop? They just never did seem to stop soon enough to me and still don't seem to stop me very fast.
The truck stays straight as an arrow, no skidding and that's all well and good but I still wish it stopped me faster than it does.
Is it just me or are all Tacoma's that way?

While I cant comment on Tacoma's from first hand experience I can tell you that my former inlaws had an 02 Tacoma and it seemed to stop just fine. My 4Runner was the one with the brakes that seem to be lacking. I did a Tundra upgrade to my 4Runner, now it feels great.

You may want to check part numbers on the rotors, calipers and pads to compare them to 4Runner parts. If they are the same you should be able to do a Tundra brake upgrade.

Thank you for the reply and the heads up on the Tundra rotors. I did read that thread and it would be the way to go on my next break job.My truck stops nice and straight and all that but it just doesn't seem to stop fast enough.
I do have 16" wheels on this Tacoma from the factory.

a high performace sports car (off showroom) will through up numbers for 60-0 in the 110-120' range. (we are talking BMW M3, toyota supra, Corevette, RX-7 (etc)

how much room would i expect an avg yota pickup (taco or not) need... 1.75 to perhaps twice those numbers!

70-0 in 70' thats like forumla 1 race car numbers
