How to ID a R151F tranny?

I'm looking at buying a R151F tranny off an '87 4Runner Turbo. I know they are suppose to all have the R151F tranny, but I just want to make 100% sure that it's still the original tranny. According to the guy at the wrecker, there is nowhere on the tranny that he can see R151F stamped on it. Apparently the bellhousing on the R151F's has a big rubber plug at the bottom compared to the little weeping hole of other's. I know the T-case has 23 splines, but it's still married to the tranny, and I don't think the guy wants to seperate them just so I can count the splines. Is there a solid way of easily identifying these?

Likely just proving my ignorance, but I thought all the turbo 4Runners only came with automatics and the 5sp r151f only came on the pickup??
Either way, check here for a decent pic and some ID info:
http://www.marlincrawler.com/trans.html<--scroll down to the bottom and it has a chart for IDing the tranny based on the input bearing #

Thanks for the info. I did more searching, and now see that the R151F only came on '86-'87 Turbo pickups, and not 4Runners. Is this correct, cause I think this guy is telling me it's off a 4Runner.? Thanks

yep, 5 speed wasn't an option on a turbo runner.

You answered your own question. Just look for that big (~4") rubber plug. R151F's are the only Toyota truck tranny to have this.

OH MY GOD!!! THIS THREAD JUST HELPED ME SO MUCH!!! I have been freaking out about the hole on the bottom of the R151F Tranny. I just bought a Turbo pickup and couldn't figure out if that was normal...
Mine doesn't have the rubber plug anymore? Is this bad? Any clue on how I can get a hold of a new one?

Identifying Turbo R151F Transmission. It has a 4" or so hole in the bottom of the bellhousing.
