Hood Scoop POLL.. (Kinda)
First Check out the Pictures.
Now before you start Flaming. I bought this hood scoop off Ebay. $19 bucks.
The REASON I bought this scoop is because my Engine bay gets REALLY HOT. (Even the fenders get warm) So I figured the hood scoop would help with air flow. I will make it functional (Meaning I'll cut a hole in the hood)
Now the question. Which Way should I mount it ? Grille Foward or grille towards the Windows like on some jeeps.
Grille Forward: PROS: Looks better, More Air flow CONS: Deep water crossings will let water POOR into engine bay, Heavy Rain, Snow
Grille towards Windshield: PROS: Not as much water will poor in when deep water crossing, Water won't poor in when Raining or Snow. CONS: Doesn't look as good
What are your thoughts... any Ideas ? Suggestions ? Flames ? Or should I just not bother ?

My buddy had the same one but he got it for $10/$17 shipped. He put it on and took it to an event and hated it. He now is going bigtime with a fully funcional highrise reversed scoop. Much like what you see on Iroc cars. Looks sweet. I would take that hood scoop you bought and frisby it at a Jeeper.

Putting it on reversed is actually an induction cowling system, at speed the air is aerodynamically forced to turn back into the scoop and accelerates at the same time. At slower speeds it's better forward, but not much use. Either way it's normally used to provide forced air for combustion, cooling is secondary, incidental.
It seems to me that if you cut a hole and put that on, there's nothing other than heat slowly rising to get your extra heat out if you're going slow. Might help a bit, but you'd open it up for water and dirt too. On the highway you probably have enough wind going through it already.
I vote for no scoop.

I think backwards would look good.
Too bad you can't get a body shop to louver the entire hood...talk about a giant vent!

I think scoops can be cool... I vote forward, but DEFINITELY paint it red...
TRD sticker is interesting too, but can't decide if I like it where it's positioned.... not that you asked

My thoughts are,
1) point it forward.
2) make it fuctional by opening up the hood.
3) try to find a way to secure a washable/oilable hi-flo foam filter (like an amsoil) to fit behind the grill opening.
4) fill in the seems around the edges before repainting the hood.
5) if you decide to do it don't go cheap or it will look cheap. That's probably why Blue's buddy hated his.

yeah i feel what he's saying. Make it into a cold air intake setup! That be hot!
If it blows off, you'll have even better cooling.

The hood scoop on my Celica is functional and I don't have any problems with rain or snow pouring into it. I think if you point it backwards you may have more water enter because the hood's lines flow downward.
I say go forward. Look at my hood pics on my Celica. The scoop lets cool, fresh air into the intercooler, and the hot air goes out of the vents. Maybe you could try something like that.
BTW, that Civic Si parked by you reminds me of my old 00 SI, but mine was black!

Don't worry about rain and dust getting in - what do you think is going on in your engine compt when you drive in rain or dusty roads? If YOU like it, put it on. The TRD sticker was a bold move - (it looks great) - and I bet some folks have said they don't like it... To each his own.
