I have a couple questions abot the 01-02 Highlanders. I now have a 1996 Volvo 850 Wagon that I've had in the family since new. I need to upgrade to a more realiable, bigger car. I think that the Highlander would be a good choice because I liked my 1998 Camry CE, That I just sold. Should I be worried about these years when it was new?(01 Highlander). How does it do in the snow? It is going to be the 4x4 4cyl model any concernes? Any info is apprecated. My 850 is just needed to much money to be put into it and I need to upgrade soon Any other recommandations? I need a super realiable car and it has do well in the snow Thanx, Chris

first, welcome to the board,
well i dont own a Highlander, but "it is a toyota" so you will have piece of mind knowing that,,, we have looked at them, the g/f wants one, when we do get a "new" car, its hers, and im sure it will be the Highlander, i havent heard anything bad about them, they are top quality IMO.

I would personally look for a V6 model. I would think that it would be a little gutless with a 4-banger..

I don't need a whole lotta power. I can't afford a V6 4x4 anyway. And I'd rather have a 4x4 system withjust a inline-4 than a 4x2 with a V6.

My mother has a 01 Highlander Limited V6 4x4, we never been in the snow, so I cant help you there, but she goes in broccoli fields a lot (which are really muddy) and havent been stuck yet, no major problems at all so far, only some cosmetic (door trim that fell out a bit, dealer fixed for free because it was under warranty).
Like the others said... I would consider a V6...

Consumers Reports gave the Highlander its top rating for midsize suv's until the Pilot came along. Have not heard anything bad about the V4 or V6. Either would be a good choice but test drive both just to make sure.
