HID Kit and DRL

Hi all...if I install an HID kit (Kensun H4 6000k) do i have to disable the Daytime running light function or can I leave it the way it is? The kit is designed to plug up directly and only requires the mounting of the ballasts but I forgot all about the DRLs until I was just about to order the kit. If I can leave the DRL functional when I install the kit, will the HIDs just run all day like the DRLs?

Please dont tell me to retrofit. I know that is the best way to convert to true HIDs but i simply dont have the funds and I especially like the Kensun kit because it has a shield on the bottom of the bulb to prevent the glare in drivers eyes.

Yes...your DRLs will run all day with the HIDs. I unpluged mine so I would have them running all of the time. Since you have a 2000, the box is located on the drivers fender by the battery. I just unpluged the harness and the DRLs turned off...saving my bulbs from running...

Yes, your DRL's will need to be disabled. Search YT for "disable DRL" for writeups on how to do it.

Yes, you must disable your DRLs. Otherwise, your HIDs will not operate properly.

Like pfdaxe said, just unplug the connector from the small black drl box in the engine bay. This box is mounted to the fender, next to the battery. I'd cover the connections if you to keep debris out if you ever plan on running them in the future.

And FWIW, I've seen similar PnP bulbs in person...the shield did little to reduce glare.

Thanks for the replies everyone, very helpful.

Does anyone out there that has done just a conversion kit have any stories to tell about being flashed or worse, pulled over due to the increased glare? (especially wondering if anyone has a kit with the glare shield, despite the fact it may not be the best, Thanks Rock Slide for the advice )

I like the drl's and would like to install a kit that would work with the drl. Does anyone have them working this way?
