Help finalizing my lift decision...please help!!!!!

THANKS FOR READING MY THREAD. So I have 97 runner and bought it used about three months ago. She has 121xxx on her and is the 3.4 (glad i got this engine) and 2X4.

I do not do any kine heavy duty off roading, most my driving is on road with a few simple back trails on the north side of the island (i stay on Oahu). So I have been looking at a ton of threads, post, online articles etc etc. But my close to final decision, hopefully after I read some feedback, is to go with the 3" lift kit with front and rear OME coils from ToyTecLifts.

I will prob be throwing on some 33" BFGs after the lift. And yes, this is strictly a cosmetic lift because I wont be doing any offroading, but I need the lift because I am 6'7'' and weigh 320 lbs (yeah, im freaking huge) and it will be easeir "in n out" access. So deciding on that lift, my next choice is obviosuly which coils I want to put on. And that choice is based on I want to save the ride, but also have it be meaty enough for the soft trails I drive to the farm occasionally.

I have read all the threads on the coils and numbers, but I feel like my decision s semi unique because I already weigh so much and my family, all of us being poly, are HUGE haha. In the back I have some 12s in a ported box, so thats some weight, but most my cargo is all occasional, nothing constant, only my boards.

So if you've made it to this point in my thread, you HAVE to leave feedback to make it worth your time, haha. So I'm ready for all the negative "look up other threads" comments, the real helpers comments, and the others who are in a similar situation trying to find answers as well.

SO PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!!! (what would you do, where am I wrong in my thinking, etc etc)Thanks.

And the instal should be easy, thanks to the boys down on Schofield barracks maintenance department, it will be easy.

Mahalos everyone...

I do not have much to add that will help. I am impressed you fit in your 4runner. I am 6' 2" 200 lbs and I find it a little tight.

Ehh...the choice is really up to you.

Front:
OME 880 springs (881 is more popular but I think the 880 is lighter spring rate which might be better for the 2wd)
OME Comfort shocks (SC)
or
Toytech adjustable coilovers with the lighter spring rating (might be firmer ride than the OME, especially on a 2wd)

Rear:
OME 906 springs
OME Comfort shocks (SC)

The 906 springs are a rated to be a 2" lift on 4wd's so they will probably add another inch to your 2wd since it sits lower to start with.

If you want to go taller than the 906 setup you could do the 890's in the back and put a top out spacer in the front if it needs it (or do the 881 spring in the front).

I would personally stick to the comfort shocks for an on-road setup. I have the regular N86 shocks in the back with stock springs and they ride a bit on the stiff side.

Or just call up Sonoran Steel and spend the extra money for one of Steve's kits (the SS lifts are the forum boner).

Hey Joshs98...so you runnin the OMEs too? what kind of lift did it give you after install? I heard the 3" lift really only shells out maybe 2". Also, have any pics of your ride, your 98 body wise will be a really similar after product.

And thanks everyone for you input. And I have not done much research on teh Sonoran lifts, mainly becasue out here in Hawaii, ToyTec has the best deals because we have an on island rep, unlike paying for shipping (sucks big time) through eveyrone else.

Mahalos,

J

I run a lift that is basically the SS lift and I like it. It may be a little too soft for your liking, since you will drive mainly on the street. I would say 881 on the front and 890 or 891 on the rear for when you are loaded. It will ride a little stiff with just you, but if you load it up you will appreciate the extra spring capacity. As was mentioned you can tone it down by using the comfort shocks. Good luck and Mahalo.

I had that problem with the OME 882 coils. My stock length shocks wouldn't extend far enough to fit them. I ordered up a pair of OME N91SC comfort valved shocks and have been very happy with the overall lift ride and performance.

IIRC, your stock length shocks should work with the OME 881's, Tundra coils and even spacer lifts up to 2.5" (although I wouldn't recommend spacer lifts). But, while you're at it, you might as well do the coils and shocks at the same time. Good luck!

p.s. I don't know why you're all complaining that the 4Runner is small. I'm 6'3" and 250 and fit pretty well!

OME recommends you match their spring with their shocks (nitrochargers).

So if I understand your question correctly, you're contemplating 890's or 891's in the rear due to the additional weight?
I've been told the 891's are good as long as the additional weight is constant (ie, Heavy duty bumper) otherwise the 890's ride a lot better.

Good luck!
