Question HELP with DRL mod!!

I am trying to disable my DRL. I have a 2000 Limited 2wd auto. I found the relay up under the gas petal, and I pulled off the white connector...and that's where I'm stuck. My wiring is different than in the write-ups. Check out these pictures. I flipped the white connector around in the second pic so you can see both sides. Where are the two white wires? Which one do I cut???

Someone can chime in if I'm missing something here, but I've got a 2000 Limited and all I had to do was un-couple the connector that lies just behind the battery tray up in the engine compartment on the drivers side....

I never had to cut any wires.

Just my experience.

You shouldn't have to cut any wires on a '00. Just unplug the connector hidden by the battery.

You were looking at a write-up on a 2001 4Runner.

Correct, you do have a 3rd Gen ('96-'02). However, there were 2 different designs in the DRL Module for 3rd Gens. '00 4Runners and ealier models w/ DRLs, have a box in the engine compartment by the battery that can be unplugged to disable them.

In '01 & '02 4Runners, Toyota ditched this box that could be unplugged. For these year 4Runners, owners must snip a wire to disable the DRLs. However, even the write-up you mentioned in your post can cause problems. It will disable your DRLs, but will kill the DRL module. Therefore, if you ever wanted to have DRLs again, you'd have to fork over close to $300 for a new module.

Instead, owners with a '01 & '02 4Runner should follow this write-up:

Disable DRLs on a '01 & '02 4Runner

You don't have to install the switch like stated in the above write-up, but this write-up will show you which is the correct wire to cut without killing your DRL module at the same time.

I learned this lesson the hard way. (I killed my DRL module). But then again, I don't ever plan to run DRLs anyway, so it's no real loss.

Don't think YT has a write-up on how to disable DRLs on a '00, but simply put: find that box as described above and unplug it. That'll do the trick.

Oh and welcome to YT.

Hey, by the way...I noticed the fog light's aren't working. I actually have never seen them work. I am thinking of going to the dealership just because I don't want to waste time with new bulbs if it's a wiring problem...then I'll have to go to the dealership anyway b/c I'm a horrible electrician. They ARE supposed to come on with the regular lights, right?

Could be just bad bulbs...but if both are not operating could have something to do with the wiring.

I'm assuming your 4Runner came w/ these fog lights installed from the dealer? Or are these aftermarket fogs a previous owner might have installed?

I used to have factory fogs on my 4Runner. Toyota wired them so they only worked w/ the headlights on. They also turned off when the high beams were activated. The control switch was a turn style knob on the turn signal switch off the steering wheel column.

I've since done the "fog light mod" (see the tech section) to be able to turn them on when ever I want. When I upgraded bumpers, I lost my factory fogs. I then installed some IPF lights in their place and can use them w/ my factory switch as long as my parking lights are on.

That's a mod worth looking into when you get your fogs working. Granted it's a little involved, but I'm by no means an electrician either...I've learned what I know about vehicle wiring simply from others here on YT.

BTW, if you still want to remove/cut the correct wire on your plug, then the BLACK with YELLOW STRIPE wire is the one you want.
