Have you found your intake kit worth the money?

Have you found your intake kit worth the money?
About to replace my filter and I was probably just going to buy a K&N replacement filter (so I can wash it when needed).
I am however, considering a full replacement cold ait kit (probably K&N). Have you found yours really worth the money? I imagine performance gains cant be of all that much, but how did your gas mileage increase, if at all?
Also, this would be going on a 1999 2.7 4x4
thanks

I used the K&N drop in for a while and it was the biggest waste of $50 ever. My new setup cost me about $40. I installed a cheep cone filter from ebay and fabed a custom heat shield that offers WAY more coverage than any kit. Big diference in thotle response and a bit more hp overall. Well worth the time and money.

Skip K&N. Increased air flow means increased dust flow. A mining company tested K&N vs. stock and found increased silica (sand) in the oil after the change.
Of course, maybe you like polishing your cylinder bores with silica...

What if you use the K&N prefilter? It supposedly filters out very fine particles and repels water. I use a K&N filter and Outerwears prefilter on my ATV and have never had a problem with either dust or water getting in there.

I had the Injen model air intake, took it off about 6 months ago and went with the amsoil filter and deckplate mod, best change I have made to date. Less noise and more water protection.

Build ur own!! I swapped my battery and my airbox, put a deckplate in. Instant HP. I still use a stock filter, keep everything out that needs to be out.

I would like mine to breath better, but am not about to drop $150 for the k&n fipk, so I am getting a cone filter + MAF intake adapter on ebay for $9 +shipping, brand new. Then I will just look for a 3" aluminum pipe from some ricer shop with the right bend to replace the connection behind the MAF to the throttle body and get rid of the silencers.

I like my $69 shipped eBay ricer intake. Basically a ripoff of the Airaid system. Sounds good, and has noticeably increased power. Fittement was so-so, and it took some fiddling, but otherwise quality it very good.

I'm trying to figure out a way to set up a snorkel and have it open all the time with the stock airbox having an on/off setup on it... it's just that damn MAF sensor... I have to figure out how to keep that thing going if I close up the stock airbox.

I just took my k&n air charger off my runner. It was loud towing up the mountains and I just got tired of the noise it made. I actually think i have more power now tho. When i put it on i lost a bit of low to mid range kick. It didnt really do anything for me the time i had it on, no HP increase or MPG increase. I'd say they are not really worth it IMO.
