Have any 4th gen owners tried this...
Not sure if these fender flares would be a perfect fit, but the lines of these Cherokee flares would blend well with the 4th gen...

Any 4th gen owners happen to have a set in ther garage? It seems if the front fender claddding and fender liners were removed on the 4Runner and a little sheet metal were nibbled away, one could perhaps fit some serious meat on the 4th gen runners with such a flare. Would probably need to add the supposably-coming ARB bumper to make such a flare tie in with the front end. Kinda wish I had a bigger garage and know-how. When no mod's exist, improvise??

also ... have you seen pics of the soon-to-be ARB bumper?? it sticks out a little far from the front of the truck ... so that bumper and the flares might not look so good ... the truck already looks like it has a very elongated nose ...

it's not the flares that you need to worry about. the sheet metal is where you are subject to the rubbing. cladding is just an extension of the sheet metal so if you want bigger booooogers, you're just gonna have to start trimming/shaving/cutting.
the amount of offroading that i've done on 285's, i've pretty much stripped out all my inner fender now. if you get a body lift, then removing the inner fender will be minimal but w/o the bl, expect lots of trimming. anything bigger than 285's will require lots of cool personal customization ofcourse, if you don't do much offroading, stuffing larger tires shouldn't be an issue. but i suspect you have some large plans so just start trimming slowly until you feel comfortable.
i'm sure in time, there will be aftermarket companies coming out w/ fenders for the taco/4runner.
btw, if you want crazy fenders, how about some custom fiberglass work? fiberglass fenders are relatively cheap so that could be an alternative concept too (which any fiberglass shop can build).
good luck
