Has anyone fixed the spare tire clunking issue on their 3rd gen?
I'm still getting that odd clunking noise when going over bumps. It rarely happens unless it is cold outside, but it's very annoying to say the least. Has anyone here come up with an easy fix?

i might have this too lol. mine actually just sounds like the rear right shock needs lube *shrug*
i'll take the spare off tomorrow and find out what/if it's hitting anything. Mine's on there VERY tight though...

hey guys,
does the sound ONLY happen when your rear axle goes over a speed bump? if so, there is something inside the rear hitch (looks like a rectangular piece of metal) that hits the inside. it can be adjusted to not make that sound by hand. the guy at the toyta dealership just reached inside there and did it for me. 3 months of aggravation gone in second

i dont have a hitch...
plus i think im going to keep the tire on the roof rack anyways, unless im wheeling. i dont like the look of a big 33 hanging down. i know i could mess with the assmebly and get the tire higher up, but i think ill just use the rack.
but i could imagine the hitch rubbing against the tire and making this sound.

The fix is this: Take your spare tire off!
Only problem is when you get a flat you're screwed, but, hey, at least the noise is gone!
On a side note...how does one get their spare tire back on with a body lift? The holes dont line up anymore

drill a hole in the plastic crap. thats what i did.
you cant even see the hole when the tailgate is closed.
however it is tricky getting that crank into the hole of the tire winch thingy. <-yea i said it

I removed my hitch but I never noticed a cluck prior to it so I guess I don't have the issue but now I'm going to pay attention just case I've been ignoring it.
