Had an Accident - No Jamboree for me

Everything was going so well, I thought. I just received my Lock-Right Locker. I got a new Impact Socket Set on E-bay. I was planning on doing the install tomorrow to get ready for the Jamboree next week. Not going to happen now.

I was driving down a 4 lane highway with a common left turn in middle, there were houses on the left and a market parking lot on the right. A car full of Eastern Europeans (spoke little English) decided to cross the street to the market parking lot. I saw them with 50' to impact I honk my horn and expected they would wait in the neutral turn lane until traffic cleared, but NO they just kept coming I pulled as close to the curb as I should while hitting the brakes as hard as I could but they just kept COMING. The hit between the doors on the Drivers side, spun my truck on over the curb sideways into a cable that was tied to a telephone poll and my truck snapped the cable like it was a shoelace. So instead of damage just on the driver side I got it on both sides. I was sooooo pisssed.

They had the nerve to blame me for not looking out for them. I think I heard they were in country for about 2 weeks only. The driver in the other car left ion an ambulance. I didn't look like anything too serious though, nothing I brain boost won't cure.

On the bright side, if that's possible:
My mechanic, who also has a body shop told me that he has to replace the rear end and he will look for a 3rd generation with an E-Locker. So I guess I will try and return my Lock-right tomorrow.

Here's some
Pictures

Thanks for listening to these rantings.
Andy

Sounds nasty. Glad your fine. Sorry about the truck though. Did the pole fall over? Insurance $$ is usually nice though. I'm kinda hoping somebody would broadside me (with no injuries) so I could get a new paint job and body work done. That or total it so I could get a 4x4.

Well, glad you ok. Have fun.

BTW, you link to the pics didn't work.

Actually I hit the cable and snapped it but no I didn't hit the Pole and it didn't fall.

I fixed the Pictures on the original post I think.

If I get an E-locker and a new paint job I'll be happy. The best thing is I have Full coverage from State Farm, so if their Insurance stalls I know State Farm will grease there wheels and I should get my truck back quickly.

I reason I got State Farm was because a year ago I pulled a Chevy Blaser out of a ditch and to say thanks they backed into me. But they had State Farm and I was so impressed at how well State Farm responded I changed my Insurance to them.

I'm now driving a rental Escort, no electric windows, mirrors or door locks. I guess i was spoiled by my 4Runner.

Glad you are okay. Good luck on the E-locker. You did not get total, did you? Hey your runner looks just like mine, green and gold factory stripes.

Sorry to hear about your little mishap. I hope they get it back to you soon. No one should have to drive an Escort for extended periods of time.

Well the preliminary EST from my mechanic/body shop guy is ~$7000.00. I hope my truck is worth more than that.

Kelly blue Book:
Private party $10,400
Retail $12,360

Hope they just fix it Lockers and all.

Thanks

Sounds like it was their fault since they were making a left and you had the right of way. They probably didn't know the laws, although that's no excuse.

Too bad about your truck, glad you weren't hurt.

Hey Robinhood

They weren't making a a left turn. They were at a stop sign at T intersection. They decided to go straight through all 4 lanes of traffic to the shopping center across the street. I thought for sure she was going to stop once the reached the half way point but no they just kept coming without even slowing down. I think she paniced and hit the gas instead of the break.

Thanks
Andy

That sucks.

Why don't you have him throw in some new rear coils while they are at it?

Good luck with the car and finding the e-locker.

HEY! I resent that remark. Oh, well, okay, the newer Escorts are lame. I have a 95 with a Mazda engine and it's pretty zippy. When I was rearended two years ago, I got a new Escort for a rental. Dang that thing was underpowered!

Sorry to hear about your accident. That sucks, man. Just out of curiosity, whose footin' the bill, your insurance or theirs?

Well The accident happened only 10 hours ago. But since I have State Farm with Full Coverage they'll make sure my rig gets fixed promptly and I since my insurance covers $25.00 for a rental they pay for that. They will go after the other insurance company so I won't have to be bothered fighting with them.

But I thought I made this clear before but just in case I didn't I'll restate positively that accident was 100* their fault. They had a STOP SIGN and I was driving in the middle of the block with no Stop Sign or Traffic signal within 1/4 mile in any direction.

So to answer your question their insurance in going to pay for sure.

Thanks
Andy

Yeah the duellers had less than 5000 miles on them.

I just got the police report. It says D2(me) was alone, he was in #1 lane NB doing ~40Mph he saw V1 EB he applied brakes, honked horn. and swerved into #2 N/B lane but V1 continued to enter his lane and hit V1 Driver's side of vechicle. The Impact form V1 pushed V2 up onto the east curb and the passenger side of vehicle struck the guide wire for a utility pole severing it.

Recommendations none

I'm sorry to hear about your rig. I can relate to stupid drivers, I'm still in highschool, and the kids (haha... I'm one to talk) here can't drive at all! In fact I got rearended like 2 months after I got my truck, the kid had had his car for three days. Luckily Toyotas are made out of metal Well I hope you can get your rig back, and by the way, what color is that? Is it a factory color, or aftermarket?

I just a copy of the Police Report. It says that the "Primary Collision Factory" was a CA Vehicle Code Violation Section 21802 (a). Does anyone know what that would be? I guessing illegal lane change, but not sure.

By the way they were driving a 90 Camry. There damage seem to limited to the right front corner of the vehicle. My 4Runner seems to have taken the worst of it, go figure. Well maybe, there car wouldn't start and had to be towed.

Thanks for the replies

Andy
