Gouge in new water pump. Should I worry?
New 4Runner owner here but long time wrencher. My question is this - considering the new metal gaskets that come with the Aisin water pumps, is a gouge like in the picture going to be a problem? I have two of these on this new water pump and I'm a paranoid about leaks. The gouges don't seem to be more than a mm or so but considering the gasket design, this might be too much for a proper seal. And of course they just so happen to be where the rubber portion of the gasket are. Thoughts?

Can't say that I've had a spot or two like that but I'll give 0.02 anyhow. Since its in the rubber area of the gasket it most likely would be fine.
I might consider putting a very small dab of RTV on each of those spots or maybe even a tiny bit of JB weld to just fill the gouge flush before assembly.
