Got Rear-ended...now confused

I have a 2002 4Runner SR5 & got rear-ended a month ago. My rear bumper got a little bent in and down. My insurance deductible is at $500 so I figured I could replace it cheaper. Luckily I found a OEM rear bumper in excellent condition for $70 on ebay. I got it today and went to work on it, however I notice my rear bumper brackets are bent back and down too much for me to put the bumper on. I went looking online for new brackets but the ones listed for a 2002 don't look like the ones I have back there. Here's what I find for the 02 LOOK The ones that do look like the ones on mine look like these for the 96-98 LOOK

Do I just get the ones for the 96-98? I need help please!

The picture in the first link is a side support for the bumper end cap IIRC. The 2nd link is the correct bracket.

Btw, you might want to just go get them from Toyota so you know you are getting the right parts the first time. Was the "OEM" one on ebay used? If it was new, and you only paid $70, it was NOT OEM. It was taiwan aftermarket that claims oem quality (which is a lie that I can't believe is legal)

If you got rearended shouldnt the other persons insurance be covering the cost of repairs to your vehicle?? Ive never heard of an individual rearending someone and not being responsible.

Yea, it was a mess in rush hour traffic. I got rear ended by a minivan, the minivan got rear-ended by another car, and then that car got rear-ended by another car who was being driven by a guy from Mexico who of course didn't have insurance and turned out to be a drug runner. I talked to the police there and they said the drug runner was at fault and not the others because we were all stopped and the drug runner guy came crashing into the 3rd car back from the carpool lane. Nice huh?

The more I thought about it the more I figured you were going to have a story along these lines...dang drug running illegals. The police should have allowed all of those affected to drag him to the back alley and take the damages out of his face...Sorry to hear about your unfortunate involvement... As far as the brackets go...I was going to say to buy the ones that look like what is on your vehicle, but they may not work on the "new" bumper. I wouldnt really be able to tell without seeing everything side by side. Sorry I couldnt help more...someone will chime in that can though.

Yea sorry, it was a used OEM bumper, stamped with Toyota on it and a very very small ding. Exactly like my damaged one, but new looking!

Thanks for the advice all, I did go to the dealer and they charge $100 for each sub-assy arm. I guess I'll shell out the dough unless anyone else have a better idea. I do like some of your photo's people post of the tubular rear bumpers, too bad they are so expensive!

Where do you live? Update your profile- User CP.
I may have the parts you need for cheap.

Did you try any junk yards?

Take the bumper off and use a jack and a BFH to get the brackets back in place...Can't hurt they are already messed up.

Oopsies.

I have a problem, I rear ended someone with my boyfriend’s truck last night. It wasn't so bad, but I've never done that before. We exchanged insurance numbers, driver's license numbers, and phone numbers, but made no report to the police as no one was hurt. When I did call 911 for the proper protocol, the dispatch lady told me that both of us need to report it to a police station within the next ten days and then give my insurance company the report. I just dont wanna be screwed over here. Does this sound correct?? It was so minor on a late 90's Toyota Corolla. Will this be expensive?? How much do these body kits or whatever cost? I'd imagine it's just the bumper and I wanna pay upfront and not deal with insurance.

Thanks for the input in advance!
