Got my 3rds

I picked up my thirds today. V6 front and rear. The front is non-ADD (I think). Is this a problem? I run manual hubs and will eventually be going to dual cases.

Hey! How about some pics??

OK, looks like I got stuff I can't just bolt in.

The rear diff does not have a speed sensor for the ABS and the front doesn't have ADD. I'm sure I need a different rear 3rd, but can I swap over the ADD stuff to the front housing, or should I go to a yard and see if they'll switch with me? I wanted to use parts that would make swapping these in a fairly quick bolt up procedure.

you didn't happen to get those from Randy's did you? they sent me the wrong front and it was a fiasco to get them to cross ship me the right one. basically they wanted to pull the locker out of the wrong one and reinstall it into the correct from one. nah, I wanted it straight out of the box.

anyway, did you get lockers installed in those?

If you have no hole in the rear for the ABS, that is a problem

The front is great though. Many people fit the short side tube on to eliminate the ADD sleeve all together. You can either install that front as it is or swap the side tube to your current diff. Think of it as moving up in the world.

Not from Randy's

No lockers yet. I'm getting them installed locally. I bought the 3rds from a POR member that's local here. I was so excited I found someone with 3rds to sell that I didn't check about the ADD and or the ABS snesor plug on the housing for the rear.

Am I right about the diffs not being something I can use? I can't believe I didn't look for that stuff...

To reiterate.

Rear=NO

Front=YES as is or YES if you swap the tube. The diff can be regeared with or without the tube on and the tube from the diff on your truck can be swapped to the third that is in the pic.

I have to agree here Cebby, while you got them out, you might as well drop in the ARB's to save time later. Assuming you have an extra $1400 laying around for the parts alone and then more for the labor.

You are right. You don't get it.

4.10's with auto and 33's would not be a good combo. I already have 4.88's but its too peppy for me.

I'm going to see if I can swap a yard for something a little more suitable. I'm getting the overhaul kit from Randy's (Internet special) for $389 which I believe is front and rear gears, bearings and all that other crap. ARB Lockers from Wolfpack TLC. I already have an Extremeaire compressor.

Mike,
You're just getting to be quite the smart-ass, aren't you? A little more sarcasm and I'll actually be able to understand what you're saying.

Just a random point of information; there is no such thing as a V6 front IFS diff. They're all the same. Only the rears are different.

yes, you should send all the pieces to them and let their "crack" tech's do a bang-up job for you. Might I stress the use of the word "crack?" Hey maybe they'll throw in a couple rocks for you for free with the installation.

That was what I did when I did my regear. The diff I was putting in had the ADD which I didn't want. So I just swapped the stuff. Finding the sockets to work on those star shaped bolts was something I didn't expect to have to do.
