allright im moving to summit county, colorado in a week and im going to need some good fog lights. i was wondering what are soem good lights to look into, my only requirements are that there not too expensive, im looking for some fairly cheap ones but id like them to get the job done

You're right about needed fog lights up there. Many a time the Blue river has been hammered by the stuff. I'd get something very bright and amber tinted. That way they will work very well in thick, blowing snow.

hella optilux 1000's, man. they fit right in with the car, are smaller and cheaper, but are pretty bright and cut through the foggy morning and night we had here last week like butter.

I spent about $100 for the complete Hella 500 fog kit and some clear stone shields so you can just turn them on anytime, WHILE MOVING so you don't bust the lenses due to heat build up, and not have to take off any covers.

those optilux ones look sweet man! they really do look factory almost, im kinda liking the hella 500's tho i like the bigger look, and my dad had the hella 500 square ones on our old chevy and they worked pretty good. how much are those optilux ones going for though? and what else is there thats sorta like the 500's that are good, is there anythign any cheaper? i heard kc lights are pretty bad but really inexpensive, is that true?

Personally I like the Hella FF (free form) series. Reasonably priced, exellent lite output, clear lens look, Hella quality (pardon optilux), and many styles to choose from. I got a set of driving and fogs and have been very happy with them. Check um out.

I just installed a set of Lightforce 170's - 500,000 candlepower apiece, and the fixures are adjustable from a pencil point to a flood (like a MagLight):

lee, was there no way to install the opti's into your lower valence? i want something that looks like the factory fogs. also, did you have to get a wiring harness or anything along those lines?

came as part of a full kit... there was no real way to attach it to in the fog light area for one reason: since it came with no factory fogs, theres absolutely NOTHING there. this means that since the optilux lights are a little oversized in general, and because of the hinge theyre on, they have to attach to something.

i prefer them to sit where they are now anyway. i love them. ive gotten compliments at red lights and gas stations, no joke.

a guy with a 99 runner asked me about them. i told him about yotatech!

I'm glad your happy wityh your Optilux 1000 fogs. Aside from my first hand experience I have read about some quality issues with this line of lights (try the search, I read some here) . They are the "low end" of hellas and dont seem to be held to the same standard. I purchased a pair of Optilux 1200's and within a week noticed condensation inside one lamp. After attempting to reseat the gaskets and some more wet weather driving it turns out that water is entering both lamps and coroding the reflectors. The lights continued to work (at least through fogged lenses & rusted reflectors) for 6 months till I had a rock crack a lens. Decision time. Did I get a fluke pair of lamps? I liked the look of them and the price was right. They are Hella's after all! I bought another pair from different supplier thinking I got a lemon the first go round and now I got spare parts for the new set. Right. Same deal. They take water like a sponge and rust the guts. Suma da botch! The forgiving type that I am I gave Hella another shot with the FF line and so far so good. I'll reserve judgement for a year. Hella's on probation in my book Optilux "by Hella" ???

weird. i have gone through a huge blizzard, several rainstorms, hail, ice, and recent small snow falls and not had a SINGLE problem.

i love them. i got the factory switch too...

just to let everybody know. i went ahead and got some KC 57 series fog/driving lights. I would much rather have gotten the hella 500's but these kc's only cost me $30 brand new because when i bought my car one of the fog lights was broken and they gave me money that was good at a local store to replace them, well since im getting an arb bullbar and the lights i was supposed to get replaced were going to get removed anyways i went ahead and paid $30 extra and got some fog lights. seems liek a good deal to me, does anybody have these particular lights or know if there any good? they seem decent, i think im going to be happy.

I've always heard that fog lights are a big disappointment to most people. They never work as well as people expect them to. Especially truck owners since fog lights work best when mounted as low as possible. I've heard many people say that they don't work at all infact.

My Hella 500's don't seem to cut through the fog but that may just be me. I was thinking about getting some small ones for the valance (like the size of the optilux ones) what do you think??

anyone got pics of small optilux-like lights in valance??

i'm gonna probably try hella 450s on my front bumper. i like fog lights because they typically toss out light to the sides rather than right out front like my headlights

If anyone wants awesome fog lights, get a set of Catz. Incredible light output in a small package. I can turn off my headlights with them on and not notice much of a change. They are kinda pricy but you get what you pay for. excellent quality and just super bright. love them!!!
