Gearing with 33's?
Twards the end of this summer when m,y tires are worn out I plan to put on a 1"-2" body lift and 1.5" BJ spaces, and then 33's.
My stock R&P gearing is 4.10 and I would assume that even with my engine swap that 4.10 will not be low enoguh for 33's. So what should I go with?
I am hoping 4.56 will be ok since I can get those out of a wrecking yard for cheap and then upgrade my 4.10 diffs to 4.88.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks

This applies for 5 speeds only though. Put an auto box on there and bump up (down?) a gear.

Hmmm, what gear ratio do most 3rd Gen owners run with glorified 33's and an auto?
I would get 4.88's. I really think that 4.10's are for stockers and 4.88's start the limit of being worthwhile for trail trucks driven on the road.

4.10 me thinks
I got the 3rd genner with 285s and you do lose some umph off the line, but a trail rig isn't supposed to be a race car. I still got plenty of power and just cruise nice and slow to make sure everyone can get a good, nice, long look!
I'm going to eventually regear when the rig is paid for, but for now it is just fine and dandy for a daily driver and a weekend trail rig.

I got 4.88's just because I wanted more torque offroad and for pulling things, assuming I have gription. it really helped out too onroad because with the 4.10's I basically had no top gear acceleration for passing on the interstate. 4.88's aren't too low in my opinion which comes from actually driving 4.10's and 4.88's with 33's.

I'm running 33's with an automatic that has overdrive. I put in 5.29s and I still can not use my overdrive. I wish I could go to a lower gearing. With a stick I would suggest Yukon 5.29 gears. Mine work great. You can buy them from Randy's ring and Pinion. Do a search on the name and you will find them. If you call them they can also help you pick the right gearing.
