gear oil question

Hi guys!! i have a question. couple months ago i've changed gears on my truck. i went from 4.10 to 4.56. i've driven around 3000 miles since then. i already got the gear oil changed after first 500 miles....and yesterday decided to check it. it was realy dark. no metal pieces....just a fine metal dust. is it ok??? or should i go back to the shop to have them chek it again??
thank you!!

i dont see why it wouldnt be okay to change? IF they used synthetic gear oil to change it that may be why it appears dark.

If you already changed it once, then leave it.

If you REALLY aren't feeling comfortable with the darkness, then change it again. A little peace of mind goes a long way, especially with Toyota.

Seen alotta gear oil in my day, looks good. That fine particulate may not even be entirely metal(the phosphorous coating also wears from the gears), and is perfectly normal. You can change the fluid as often as you can afford or definetely when the manufact. recommends.
