Fuel Injector Experience.

I'm a very infrequent poster, but use this forum a lot for repair information for my 98 Tacoma 5vzfe. I had a positive experience with the replacement of my fuel injectors and with the vendor itself, and really wanted to post for all those like me who read this forum for useful information.

Here's my story.

Intermittent misfire turned permanent with check engine light
Checked OBD2 code, P0304, cylinder 4 misfire
Swapped coils, misfire stayed with cylinder 4
Changed spark plug, same result
Changed spark plug wire, same result

I wanted to send my injectors to witchhunter.com for servicing, but that meant having the truck apart in the garage for 3-4 days. I optioned to do the job all at once.

Purchased a set of remanufactured fuel injectors from injectorwarehouse.com, part #MP4075-6, which is a matched set of 6.
Brand is Bostech, which is the actual company that rebuilds them.

Core charge was $30, buy I'll keep them and service them
Just under $200 with shipping
Arrived next day!
2-year warranty
All fuel injectors appear to be remanufactured Denso with OEM part #23250-62030 stamped on each injector

Installed injectors in less than 4 hours time
Injector 4 was indeed the culprit, 1.6K ohms of resistance!
Only problem was the nub that holds the wiring connector on one of the injectors was worn and was easier to pull off. Opted not to send back and put the injector at the number 1 cylinder (easy access if it comes off)

Started truck
Misfire again, this time in cylinder 2
Cleared up in 5 minutes, maybe the Vaseline that I used to lube o-rings, who knows?

1000 miles since injector replacement
Running smooth!!!

I am having this exact same problem. Cylinder 4 misfire is my CEL code. I changed out plugs and wires and that didn't fix it. I then swapped my coil packs and the code didn't move. I am almost 100% positive I have a faulty injector. Did you use any type of write-up or do you have a documented way to change this injector out? Any information would be great!

The FSM was useful also. Fastener torque information here.

When all is read and done, you just have to pop the hood open and do it. It becomes quite obvious what needs to be removed.

Keep track of all nuts and bolts, where they belong.

Keep track of all hose disconnections.

Write it down, use tape, use paint markers, or take pictures, whatever works for you.

This was the first time doing the injectors on this truck, made difficult by the intake plenum blocking half the injectors.

It took me about 4-hours to do the job, but I can probably do it in less than 2-hours next time.

Take your time and be methodical.

Notes:

All throttle cables can be removed from the throttle by manipulating the spring mechanism.

After removing throttle cables, remove single main bolt holding the bracket, move it out of the way, and you're done with that part.

Mental note, curved hose under throttle body goes to curved metal nipple.

Removal of throttle body from upper intake plenum not necessary.

The fuel rails can be left in tact at the front end, only disconnecting the main fuel line at the rear left (if you're facing the truck).

There is a hose that runs from the right side of the fuel rail to the right side of the motor (again, facing the truck) that I disconnected at the junction on the right of the engine, pulled the fuel rail off with hose attached.

Measure resistances of old injectors to assure it was the culprit.

Used Vaseline to lube top and bottom o-rings.

When the injectors are installed, twist each injector left and right to make sure they are seated correctly.

Re-used both intake plenum gaskets.

Thanks Reece. I am glad it worked well for ya.

Whenever I have broken connectors or the like, I have found that a small amount of Automotive GOOP will hold connectors in place or together but still allowing them to be removed if needed in the future.

Thanks for all the great info.

I did find that it's a little pricier for different applications. For example, if I wanted 6 injectors for my 1999 4Runner, I'd be looking at $299 before the $30 core refund.
