Here is the link to the thread I started when I changed mine around 62000 miles. It has pictures showing how dirty the inside of the filter was. That's the most miles I'm going to go before changing it again.

i didn't change mine until 160k and i had a CEL that it was running lean. Some injector cleaner and a new not clogged filter allowed it to flow enough fuel and clear the light. After i changed it the truck felt like it had 10 more hp. Now i will definatley do it about every fifty thousand miles

I've changed a few out and always cut them open later. Judging from what they look like at various mileages, I agree, 50K is a good interval to change them out.

just did mine last week at 134k along with throttle body cleaning and an amsoil air filter. So far I am getting few mpg's, idles smoother and better throttle response.

I started mine today, but once I got the filter off, I realized the parts department sold me the wrong filter. So now I'm stuck at my house with my 4runner that is without a fuel filter. Reno Toyota is incompetent, this is not the first time they have done this. And I paid $40 dollars for it when it's only $25 online! Now to find a ride to the dealership...

Got the filter done, finally. The parts manager gave me $10 back, so that was nice. Anyways my car is running so much better, all hesitation is gone and it feels stronger. I did more than just the fuel filter though, I cleaned the throttle body, cleaned the PCV, and cleaned and re-oiled my K&N. Also I'm going to throw in a can of BG44k in once I get around to filling up. I'm really looking to get better miles, because I'm driving down to So.Cal soon. I'll keep you posted on mileage.
