Unhappy Front left suspension noise, update bushing issue?

Hi
I have a funny noise that comes from me left front wheelwell when I go over speedbumps (we have some steep rubber stop ones at work). Its like a whistle sound, and happens only with left front. I have no clue what it is, any ideas?
carsten
PS: I did do the search but I could only find references to metalic sounds, which is not what I get.

Update: I found that where the shock attaches on the low end that if I greased it the noise went away. But I noticed that the rubber in the attachment (I now think this might be called bushings) looked like it is coming apart. Should and can this be repaired or just keep greasing and check up on it ?

Update I called SDtrux and the toyota dealer, they want 200-300$ for replacing these bushing! Can this be done by a mechanically challenged clown like myself?

for that price you might as well replace the whole shock. are you still running on stock shocks or have you replaced them already? i just replaced my 2000 with oem and they feel much better.

No I still have the original shocks, might be worth considering though. (Did you oem or ome shocks?)

i bought the stock oem shocks, you can get them for about 130 for all 4 at the dealer. pretty cheap. i didn't want a harsher ride than it was thats why i didn't go aftermarket. But even with the new oems they feel really good, much better control and handles wayy better than my old shocks. Its about time you changed your shocks, mine was a 2000 and the shocks were pretty worn and one was blown (after uninstalling i can easily compressed them with my hands). Replacing was pretty easy.

How did you compress the shock when you took it off and on. I thought the force to compress would be pretty high. Can I do this with at home or will I need a garage?

i changed all my shocks at home in my garage. You don't really need a lift or anything just some floor jacks. You will also need a spring compressor to take the spring off the front shocks and to put them onto the new shocks. They are pretty cheap to buy or you may be able to borrow them from autozone. they take a bit of muscle! haha

huh, that blows my project. I have no way of measuring torque. So if I just replace the bushing for now, will it still need a specifice torque. Sorry for my stupid questions but I did try to search for replacing front bushings and never found any good writeup.

I think your truck is just acting up because you haven't taken it wheeling lately.
If you look in your owners manual, it says the 4wd system should be engaged at least once a month, for a few miles for proper maintenance. Keeps everything nice and lubed.
