Front Cam Seal question...

I took my rig into an indendant that I've used for years on Honda, Acuras, Nissans, and Toyotas. He does a good job and his pricing is little more affordable than the dealer.

Anyway, this past week they did T-belt/water pump/tensioner/thermostat/FCS/Radiator flush and refill. I opened up the hood, kinda looking things over a day or so later...and noticed something that got my attention...

Aren't the valve covers supposed to come off in order to replace the front cam seals..?? If so, then I'd suspect the shop would've also replaced the valve cover gaskets. Those aren't on my ticket, plus there's really no evidence that the covers even came off...

There's plenty of seeping oil through the valve covers in the rear, so I'm kinda surprised that wasn't mentioned or noticed and will call them in the morning, but wanted to ask here first about the covers needing to come off to replace the seals...

Not sure, anyone else know? Does the valve cover need to come off to replace the front cam seals? Or did you call them phattey and find out?

I haven't followed up with my wrench just yet.

I guess I'll call the dealer and get an answer...

Thought by now someone would've responded.

Hmmm...

no valve covers do not need to come off to repalce seals.

The end cap for the cam is machined to hold the cam seal, the valve cover sits ontop of the same end cap.
