AT Fluid Leak?

Hey guys,

I noticed a leak this past weekend and it looks like AT Fluid (Reddish). I flushed the tranny about 1 year ago and applied The Right Stuff for the gasket and hasnt been an issue.

I tried to narrow down the source of the leak, it doesnt look like its coming from the gasket on the tranmission pan or tranmission pan bolt for sure. But it looks like its coming from the front of the pan where it meets the engine?

Any ideas?

Toyota uses red coolant too, have you checked that?

If it's where the engine meets the tranny that'd be the torque converter. I'm sure there's some sort of gasket situation up there. Need some more knowledgeable peeps to jump in here.

OK,

I think I found the source of the leak. HELP!

Other pics here: http://picasaweb.google.com/vytruong/4runner#

I cleaned up the oil and let the car sit. Noticed oil build up here. I made sure it wasnt just a collection point so I cleaned up all around and it looks like its leaking from this little point in the bell. Once I started the car, it seemed to make the leak quicker. It doesnt look like an easy fix at all..any ideas? Is there a gasket between the bell and the metel plate that screwed into it?

No, there's no gasket. You can get a way better idea if you take off that "peek plate"

That bottom cover that you have pictured above can be easily removed (4 bolts IIRC)

Look in there and see if its dry. Its either the input shaft seal or something's up with your torque converter

Definitely need to drop the tranny if its one of those though

Anyone know what causes ATF to get behind this plate?

I personally have had this problem if it makes you feel better lol but heres a pic of your trans. The only 2 possibilities is the input shaft seal & front retainer gasket, or you're torque converter (unlikely but possible)

Wayyyy too much lol

Did you take off that peek plate? It will give you a good idea if its leaking like a siv or just a drop here and there.

ISFast,

Wondering if you got to investigate your leak at all. Seems like on short drives, I am ok but once I go 10 plus miles it starts to leak on me.
