Flowmaster Exhaust Write Up
I have seen alot of people asking about different types of exhaust out on the market and what to get. Actually if I can remember back I believe it may have actually been my first post. Nate08 did a magnaflow one so I figured I would upload some videos/pics of my Flowmaster set up.
I got mine installed at the local muffler shop. Its a single in-dual out with 3 inch tips. The setup for the 40 Series and new piping was I think $210 which is not bad as I have seen cat-back systems online from Borla for around 500 bucks. My gas mileage slightly is better but still its not a big difference. I get around 330 miles to a tank (300 when the roof rack is on) and that is with mostly highway miles.
The exhaust tone is deep and loud which is what I wanted. I was hoping for more of a V8 sound but for what it is I think it is very close. To me it was never really "loud" because all i heard was big Silverados and F150s with glasspacks for the past few years at high school/college so I was used to it. I will say it may be to loud for some people. The noise inside the cab is pretty good at really not that bad unless your sitting in the back.
The first clip is just a regular start up in the driveway. The truck had not been started up all day and had been sitting there for around 10 hours i'd say. The temperature was about 60 degrees i'd say.

The 2nd clip is me going down my driveway, a little down the road, then back up. there is a good 30 second break in the video where i had to turn around so just wait till you see me riding back up. my girlfriend got bored so she decided to wave her hand in front of the camera....don't ask.

Overall I love the set-up and would recommend it to anyway. Hopefully this will help in peoples future muffler set ups. The reason I went for the cat-back was I liked the look of it and never seen one with the angle tips on a 4Runner until mine. Enjoy some more with a few pictures...

Yeah, that's loud man! Just fold down the seats so no one can sit in the back on road trips. You don't want any friends losing their bodily functions and making a mess of things. In the vid when you're heading back in all I could think of was the scene in Howard Stern Private Parts when he had the chick sit on the speaker LOL! The dualies look good though!

Sounds great if I was the only one in my Runner all the time. But I have two daughters that will be in the back (and it's my daily driver). What would you recommend for a Flowmaster to be just a little mellower then your's?
Also if I go to upgrade, I may be doing my cat at the same time so will increase the sound. So what would you recommend, which flowmaster with stock cat, and which one with upgraded cat? On their site when I was looking at them before, I was looking at the 50 Series SUV Performance muffler. How do you think that would sound?

I originally wanted the 50 series Shannon but the shop only had the 40. From what I hear the factory cat and the 50 series is much more toned down then mine and also deeper. Magnaflow is said to be mellow so you should look into that one.
My boss at work also has Flowmaster on his '06 ( i think) Silverado and his is barely noticeable. Not sure which one he has but I will look under to see probably tomorrow.
here is a clip of a flowmaster 50 on a taco, should be very similar.

Ok, I was listening to others on YouTube, and there is one:

who claimes it's a super 40 Flowmaster. It sounds like CRAP (6inch tip on it doesn't help any either)!!! Your 40 series sounds 100 times better. I wonder if it's just the quality of the clips sitting on YouTube servers....

"go ahead Jimmy start it up" makes me laugh every time i see that. and a 6 inch tip is twice as big as mine so it is way overkill.
the tacoma in the clip i posted has the delta flow 50 series on it.

After seeing that 6" tip made me go find a long lost site that I use to love!!!
http://riceboypage.com/index.html
Go through this site and you will love it! It's getting on the old side but the pics and descriptions are still worth it. We used to look and laugh when we were into Supras and GT-4s.

i can always take a picture of the dash if you guys need proof lol. 330 a tank still only lasts me about a week. and you also have to remember mine is a '01 2wd with alot of highway miles on it so.
and i believe it was either 2.5 or 3? but i may be wrong so i will just have to check.

We were laughing at this:
"I get around 330 miles to a gallon."
So 330 miles to a gallon and there are about 14 gallons to a tank, that's 4,620 miles to a tank of gas. That's pretty damn good! LOL
