Steve,
Mighty fine handiwork there. Looks like some tubular steel and some plate welded up nicely. Planning on rattle canning it or powder coating? What grade steel did you use? SA-36 or perhaps SA 516-70? On that color rig you could almost get away with using stainless. CS is about $0.40 a pound here but SS is about $1.80 so CS is definitely the one to pick for the budget. Did you just weld it to the frame or bolt on? Just curious.

It's bolted on, it all 3/16" hot rolled plate.
We'll get it powder coated, some type of silverey, grayey color so it matches all the chrome they used in the 80's.
I even thought about really chromeing it. Stock bumper was.

I would polish it if you can instead of chroming or painting. This way it's not overly shiney and it'll fit nicely with the older bling of the trim around the headlights and such.

A guy I work with does a bunch of powder coating and you would be amazed at all the colors they have these days. He does his out of his house with a homemade oven, bunch of welded together sheet metal with 4 stove heating elements in it and it works like a charm. Heat stuff up to about 350 degrees for 20 minutes or so and he says it'll be on there a long time. He powder coated my factory roof rails for me some time back when they started to peel. They look brand new now and will probably last forever. He said in the near future that everything will be powder coated as it is so much more environmentally friendly than conventional methods. It is also has a heck of a lot better resistance to fading and chipping.
I wish I could just fab for my 4Runner all day long cause I got the resources, just not the room to work at home, but one day I'll have me a shop. I have to do all my personal stuff in between jobs at work. Again, nice work!

The rear bumper with hitch will be done tomorrow. It'll match the front and I'm selling that stupid Kaymar bumper.
The FJ-62 will be at the Kalifornia event this weekend as well.

Throw us a bone tomorrow and post us some pics when you're done. Anything special about this rear bumper or is it out of the same mold as the one you fabbed for the Runner?
Man I wish I had the time to work on my rig like you do! Maybe things will slow down during December like they usually do and I can get this backlog of stuff done that I want to do. First up, gotta get me some SAWs and OMEs so I can get off-road!

Toyota built a great hook in there, all you need is one point. Wanted a nice clean look.
