Fixed Transfer case leak
I thought i'd do a quick post on this because i searched but couldn't find one so i was on my own for this.
Anyway my transfer case was leaking real bad, it looked like it was coming from all the seals because it was that bad. It ended up being the shifter tower so i went to the dealer to get a new gasket but they said just use some rtv sealer. i did and its been dry for over a week now.
I will post a DIY incase anybody else is having the same problem, probably took me 1.5-2 hours but i like to take my time other wise i get really frustrated and tend to mess things up. hahah

Had you or a previous owner messed with that before? I'm kind of surprised that the OEM gasket all of a sudden sprung a leak. When I had a similar problem, it ended up being a split breather hose. Did you happen to see if that was still intact?

Like outrages112, I had had this problem with mine, although it never leaked enough to cause problems. I recently popped the top plate off mine and noticed that 1) this had been the source of the leak all this time, and 2) there was no gasket between the plate and the t-case. I also used some gasket maker to seal it back up. Haven't noticed and do not care if that fixed the leak, as I will be replacing the entire T-case shortly. Is there supposed to be a gasket there? I don't see one mentioned anywhere in my Haynes manual. Now I wonder if this is a common leak for Toyota t-cases. I thought mine might have been a fluke, but this makes me wonder....

^^^^you can call me mark...
anyway it does look like the t-case had been apart befor and the tranny had painted numbers that i could see from the top which makes me think it was from a junk yard. that worries me a little bit but as long as it stays ok.

^^^ the breather hose seemed to be fine to me
