Finally selling the truck!!!
A friend of my fiancees came over the other day with another friend of hers and she was like "wow, sweet truck....Your selling it huh?" and I said ....yup....want to buy it? She said sure.....I'll be back in a couple of days.....So I think that I've got a taker....As soon as the cash is in my hand I'm going right down to the used car dealership where my new truck sits and slapping it in their greedy little paws...and say...gimme da keys.... ...It's a 94 4Runner, 4 door, power everything, 126k miles, 3.0l v6....
Now my question is this....what kind of engine mods are available for that motor...From what I've encountered that particuliar motor wasn't too popular so not alot of major things were made for it....My main question is...Can I throw a supercharger on it? Or a turbo? Not quite sure the difference....and what else can I do to it? I'm still going to lift it and set it rolling on 33"s and deffinately lock it!!! Any help would be cool...Thanks guys..

Well Congrats if you sell your Truck. For the 3.0 there is not a SC or Turbo available.. still waiting on Toyota. To get more power the most common things done are intake (either KandN FIPK or the ISR removal mod and airbox mods) Exhaust (some sort of catback system, a free flowing cat and headers) A few more things are and electric fan, ignition, and engine work. To be honest I don't think the 3.0 is worthy of having engine work done since the cost pretty much out weighs the benefit. I have done intake, exhaust, and and electric fan and it get's down the road okay. Much better than stock but nothing compared to my 3.4 SCed swap coming this fall!

As long as the head gaskets have been updated, I'd say it's a reliable engine. Mine has 116k on it, has no leaks at all. I run Amsoil 10w40 in it, and it does just fine.
If you go up in tire size, you're going to wish for more power instantly. Why go so big? If it's just for looks, save your money! If you're serious about getting it to off road as well as you can, then be prepared to regear both axles for the larger tires, and just plan on getting passed by everything on the road, except a 4runner with a 4cylinder!
While there are hop ups available, personally I only make changes that will help longevity, like an Amsoil air filter. If you have to replace exhaust, might as well put somthing on there that will sound cool and might give a little more performance.
These things are very nice daily drivers, mine gets an almost weekly work out off road as well. So far, it's gone everywhere my neighbors TJ goes, and he always makes me lead!hehe For a truck with car tires and running boards, it does very well.

UKMyers~ Good luck on the future swap...Should rock!!!
vmax~ It is going to be mostly my daily driver. That's the reason why I'm selling my 88....I don't do a whole lot of trail riding anymore and it was just too much truck for my fiancee...She didn't like riding in it....But anyway...I still enjoy my weekend excursions and would like to beef the 94 up some....Just looking at some options...
Thanks for the input guys..

Bryce, I have to tell you, I love your rig! If I had the money right now, I would drive up there, buy it, and trailor it back home to good ole Indiana.
I think it's super sweet if that chick buys it, because you will have sold your rig, and a CHICK will be driving that badass truck! Now THAT'S cool. Just hope she treats it right(Wheels it hard!).
Good luck on your new ride!

On the other hand if it's power you're after... go for the 3.4.

3.0
ain't nuttin wrong with the 3.0 it gives me enough power needed to go anywhere i needed and to pull out those who went with me(including a big f-150) the only mods. i got for it were the K&N intake and a flowmaster exhaust. It does just fine even with the stock gearing pushing my 32's.

It has never been in the shop for engine trouble.. it does alright on most hills, sure it has to work a bit hard sometimes. If its speed you want, what the hell are you doing driving a truck?? (especially with larger than stock tires)

Hey Silver....I noticed in your sig it says your rolling on 31"s and running 4.88's.....That's not the stock gear ratio is it? I was under the assumption that in the early to mid 90's the gear ratios for the 3.0l V6's was 4.56's....Just wondering....

Bryce, here's the way I understood the whole gearing break-down. If your rig is an SR5 w/ factory 31's, you most likely have 4:88's and a slightly smaller fuel tank. If it came w/ 225's from the factory...... 4:56's. My Runner came w/ 225's and the 4:56's. I now have P265's (31's) and it goes just fine. Actually, by running the 265's, I've got my gearing a little "taller", I'm getting a little better gas mileage now.

i disagree. the 3.0 is a dog and everybody knows it. the 3.4 is such a better engine ,and gets MUCH better gas milage.
I'll take a stock 3.4 over a modded 3.0 any day. so therefor i agree, do not get a second gen. get a third!

i realize the 3 aint no sportscar engine, im just saying its sufficient for my needs, if you wanna go fast, buy a SUPRA. id rather save the money and have a 2nd gen, thats like all your beggining mods free ! its cheaper and easier to work on as well IMO.
