Ever seen a 2.7 tow a ski boat?

I know the power is there to do it as I used to tow a smaller 16 foot bayliner with an old mazda b2000 with a 4 banger that put out like 95hp.

However, some of the newer ski boats 21+ feet are quite heavy, and much more so than my bayliner was.

Have any of you seen these boats pulled with the 2.7? If it makes a difference, it would be going through a 5 speed.

Yeah, the basic rule is to not exceed the recommended tow rating of the vehicle. Check that carefully before you proceed.

I towed my 21' Sea Ray around pretty good with my old 2.7. Didn't do too bad, but then again it was only 15 miles or so to the lake. Just had to take it slow on the steeper hills and cruise it in second gear or third gear. Come to think of it, I towed it a couple times with my 2.4, but that sucked pretty bad. I think the boat trailer weight was around 5500 pounds.

My buddy had a 21' boat (regular boat, not sure what brand, inboard motor) and pulled it with his 95 Taco with the 2.7. He said it did fine.

Toyota recommends towing 3500 lbs with the 2.7 if I remember my manual correctly. How much are you wanting to tow? I have never had any problems towing anything so far with my 2.7, it does fine. Schaeffer tows with his 2.7 and a 5spd, maybe he will weigh in on this.

It would be a real good idea to find out the weight of the boat+trailer before
attempting to tow it. My 19' ski boat+traier (loaded) weighs abound 4500 lbs.
and the 3.4 V6 has no trouble with it most of the time but climbing a steep
hill from a dead stop gives the engine quite a workout.

I would guess a 21' boat+trailer (plus tank full of gass and everything else
you may have stowed in the boat) is going to weigh in 6000-7000 lbs
which is more than I would attempt with a 2.7. You'll also want to be
sure the trailer has electric brakes. Having something attached to
your truck that outweighs it by a factor of 2 will have HUGH impact on
your ability to stop.

Towed this sailboat and this ski boat with my 85 with a 22RE. Couple hundred miles sometimes. No worries.
