engine will not pass 4000 rpm's
i have a 1997 runner sr5 with a v-6 automatic 4x4, the engine acts like it has a rev limiter at 4500 rpm. i had a cylinder misfire about 2 years ago and did a full tune up on the truck. i rarely go over 2500 rps driving around but if i have to give it the gas to get out of the way it wont do it. one of my friends said it also might be a timing issue. does anyone have any clues what might be going on?

No cel, it did a couple years ago when I had a misfire, but it's been fine ever since I fixed it, I talked to my local Toyota dealer and they think it might be computer related, my boss is thinking a coil is going bad

Has the timing belt been done recently? On another forum I guy had the same problem and it turned out to be his crank pulley bolt had come loose. Another guy had to have his ECM reflashed so it can be tricky to figure out.
