engine question OVERHEATING

Got a guy wanting to sell me his 3.4L out of a 01 tacomma 60K on engine.

He said that he forgot to turn on his fan and blew a hose.
Other than that engine is fine according to his mechanic buddy.

Anyway I'm going to check it out tonight.

If the hose blew then the heads should have not warped Correct?

Should I get a commpression check first>?

$1000.00 for complete engine everything ecu harness ect

GO For it or Run

Thanks

If the engines fine. Why is he selling it?
Definitely do a compression test. I myself would never buy a motor that has been cooked.

BS!! I'm not sure if the fans are electronically controlled or by a mechanical clutch but either way it isn't on a switch unless he has swapped in an aftermarket fan. If it got hot enough to blow a hose then it could have really done some damage internally.

Think about it for a second. Why would someone sell a perfectly good engine with 60K miles on it for a grand? Hell, why would he have put in a new engine if there wasn't anything wrong with the old on in the first place?

IMO you will lose if you make this purchase.

Run

Get one out of a wrecked vehicle not someone that smoked it.
You want accident damage which is usually just cosmetics and small stuff.
An engine like you are talking about sounds like a serious headache.
Just take a deep breath and keep looking. :pat:

saw the engine

Turns ot to be a bunch of young guys in a project garage.

Well the engine is off a automatic 96 4runner I need a manual from what I understand as I'm still learning.

These guys were telling me its the same engine regardless and all I need to do is switch the fly wheel and a couple of other things.

Then all the other parts were mixed off a 01 tacoma plenem intake maifold and starter, compresor ect.

Did not get a warm fuzzy

ohh well

All you need is a different flywheel for 5spd vs Auto.

They are correct the engine blocks are the same but there are more than a few things to change for a swap.

Check out thess links for all the details:

BLEW HOSE

Yeah Because he was drunk (young kid) maybe 20 something. Forgot to turn on his fan in the desert of all places.

Anyway I'm still hunting for an engine

Unless he installed an aftermarket fan with manual switch, the 3.4 will not have any cooling fan that is electrical or driver manipulated. That's what I dont understand.

Oh well, you crossed that engine off anyway. Good thinking.
