Engine Noise

Hello All,

It has been a long time since I have been able to read the forums again, but there is still alot of good info here. I need help though. I have a 99 4Runner SR5 4wd. About 2 months ago I started getting an annoying squeal from under the hood. It would come and go, but when I tapped on the gas it would stop. I figured it was a belt. That lasted for about 2 weeks and then stopped completly. Well last week I started hearing a rattle that seemed coming from behind the timing cover, along with an annoying squeal. (the squeal does still go away for about 1 minutes after I tap on the gas) The rattle sounds like plastic or something being thrown around inside the cover. I am hoping to get some time this weekend to dig into it to see what is going on. Im assuming it something to do with the timing belt or the tensioners. Would that be a correct assumtion? Also it sounds like it is coming from the drivers side of the engine. I have done a search and found a few results, but wanted to ask anyways. Would anyone know what a ballpark cost of a timing belt replacement job would be through the dealer. I think I may be able to do it ( I have worked on aircraft for 12 years). But it is also an issue with time. Any ideas, thoughts, or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks for your time.
