Electric locker on front diff?

This may be a dumb question, but can the Toy. electric locker be used on the front differential?

Not the same one that is used on the rear diff.

There are other Toyotas that used electric lockers on the front like I think the Landcruiser FJ-80, but it was a solid axle and a different diff design.

I maybe wrong and if I am I sure someone will set me straight, but the are not many options for the front diff on the 3rd Gen. It is a 7.5" clam shell diff. There are some full time lockers like the Detroit types, and thier TrueTrac LSD that will work and then there is the ARB selectable locker like I have.

You are both right.

Yes it is a dumb question and yes it cannot be used in the front. I mean have you even seen what your front diff looks like? If not, I suggest you climb under there and get fimiliar with the workings of your truck. You should at least have a very basic knowledge of what's going on down there...

I'm just ribbing you a little bro, but you really should do what I said. After less than 5 minutes under there it should be painfully obvious why that would never work...

Yikes, I was adding a little to that, hit submit too early. You really should jump off the computer once in a while to give a dude some time to fix his mistakes...

Sorry I pissed in your Cheerios...

It would work just fine.

There is however a problem if you try to run the cable conversion on it because it hits the springs....

Goatboy, I highly doubt you are stupid. Hopefully you are just kidding like the rest of us.

I am working on installing an LSD carrier from a '91 Supra Turbo (3rd gen) into my spare 3rd member for the rear.

Yesterday I purchased a 3rd member from an 84ish Supra (2nd gen) for $30, it's axle code was F283, which means 7.5" diff, 4:30 gears, and 2 pinion LSD carrier.

After I finish the rear, I'm planning on trying to install the old LSD into my 7.5" front diff, hopefully it works.

Supra LSD swapout - results?

Hey there...

So how did the results of your swap-out go with the Supra LSD's?

I'm currently researching the same project for my 1st Gen '88.

Regards,

Sean

LSD carrier? You planning on running drugs across the Mexican border? Best place to hide em is in the tires.

I was thinking how weird that "LSD" thing looked. Tires are some of the first places border patrol looks. The ones that BP are constantly surprised with (meaning the sheer amount) is when people cut out parts and fill all the hollow spaces.

Not that I would know... tunnels are my thing

oh, in case anyone doesn't know, I'm just kidding!
Got to remember to CYA
