Elbow

Hey guys, i'm in the middle of my first mod; the elbow mod. Does that count? well i got the air box out and i'm about to remove the elbow. Do i jus rip the little rivet thingy holding the elbow in? does anyone have experience with the elbow mod on a 2.7? Also, do i need to reset the EFU? what's the difference between letting the computer correct itself and pulling out the fuse? thanks again guys!

No, no, no. You have to get at if from the fender. Which means taking off your wheel well lining (partially). There should be two 12mm bolts to remove, then you can rip it out from the inside of the wheel well.

Hold on a sec. The 2.7 appears to have a different snorkel design. I apologize, I figured it would be the same. If you can get it off without ripping and tearing anything, then you will have succeeded.

Can anyone with 2.7 experience help out?

hay wait i removed the elbow from the air box like you were planning to do i have a 98 tacoma with a 2.7 but it looks to be connected the same way.

i pulled the elbow outta the air box, maybe this is incorect but thats how i did it. . . anyone think otherwise?

i am assuming you have a 2.7 from your post. as for the reseting the efu it will allow your comp to adjust faster.

That's it man, good job!

The deckplate and the elbow mod dont provide double gains. Its been proven that one or the other works best.

Dont ask me why I have both.

That's the easy part. And, unfortunately for you, the key to making the elbow mod work correctly. The whole point is to eliminate that sharp bend you can see in that 2nd pic.

Doing both the deckplate and the elbow together won't really gain you anything. Doing the elbow is a reversable change to see if you like it or not, though if you do personally I recommend putting the elbow back on and deckplating it, along with the ISR (unsure how the ISR would go on a 2.7).

pretty easy. I jus removed the 2 10mm bolts and wiggled it out. it may seem like it won't come out...but it will. Attached are some before and after pics. Looks great doesn't it? Thanks for the help, guys!

hay 96 i thought the main point of tyhe mod was to remove the elbow from the airbox to the fender not the fender to the open air. . .

i have the isr on my 2.7 taco may be the same post some pics of your motor so i can see. i will be home in like 3 hrs and will be able to compare and post my pictures of my completed mod.

jay,

looks like you figured it out already but if you want to double check, go to http://www.4runners.org/articles/airbox

theres been debate on the effectiveness (or lack thereof) pulling the EFI fuse. me? i just pulled it b/f installing. i noticed a differnce but then again, it might be all in my head.

You can either undo your - batt cable, or pull the EFI fuse for 15 minutes.

This should help you out as to what I did. Everything goes. The elbow, the snorkel, everything.
