is this button for when you are towing, i have one on my dash on my 02 sport 4runner 4x4...also would it be a good idea to just leave this button on at all times when i get 285's so i could have a bit more tq to get moving?

Its only available on automatics as i have it on my runner too. All it does is lengthen the shifting points for the transmissions so you can get more out of your engine. This will lower your fuel economy by a bit also.

When you're towing, turn the O/D off. I like to use ECT pwr on my '93 when I'm driving on hilly roads. It minimizes the upshift / downshift problem with the 3.slow slightly.

Leaving it on wont really help you get going, since it only allows the engine to rev higher prior to shifting and only at certain throttle positions. It has no effect at low revs.
Change your diff gear ratio for more torque (or get a diesel engine).
