E Brake light

Hi,

I have a 2002 Tacoma that I have babied for 6 years. It never went off road (with me) until this summer when I got a job working in the "hills". I never used 4WD until then, other than the test drive and 1 or 2 other times. Since I did, the E Brake light has not gone off. It is on non stop, only blinking off when I come to a stop. I was told that it was too tight, maybe, but not sure. The brake does work normally, no other signs of malfunction with the brake itself. It is now starting to get on my nerves, while driving at night.

What can be done?

Is this at all related to going off road, somehow the side to side tension or something pulled something out of "wack"?

Is this a serious issue, or is it just a little annoying red light for me to cover up with a business card until I feel like getting it checked?

Many thanks in advance!

Hehe, he doesn't get an answer within 14 minutes, so then he decides to search. Still, better to have searched and found than never to have searched at all.

Hehe lolz, I wanst aware of the option before posting the message. Sorry about that.

Well, I went and filled up my brake fluid and the light remains on. I had the brakes replaced at 92,500 miles and they dont give me any problems. I drove around town a while, stop and go traffic, and the light is just on all the time. The other post this is mentioned in, a 92 PU, dosnt go any further in diagnosis of the problem.

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Thats interesting that it didn't fix the problem.

What I would check next is to see if the E-brake switch is functioning correctly, or if the e-brake handle mechanism is going in all the way. If you push in the handle, does the light go off? It might be a little sticky and not making it switch all the way.

You can see the switch at the end of the e-brake handle, towards the firewall of the vehicle. You can actually press it like a button. Check to see that the light goes off when you press the button.

I was having the same problem. Check your drums and make sure there is no sludge or gear oil residue inside. Once I replaced my inner axle seal and put some new pads in the light went off.

I went and looked under the dash and found the problem. There was a wire hanging out right where that button Baja4Runner mentioned. The wire was right in the way causing the light to not turn off. I moved the wires up and have not had the issue again. Pretty simple, I just never thought to look under there. Thanks!
