DXD Clutch Write Up

So, I put my second clutch in the last 18 months back in January and just now got around to posting a write up. Not too exciting really.

I figure the combination of 4.30's, 33's, lockers, a S/C and rock crawlin' in Moab, CO and NM is hard on the clutch. Those who have wheeled with me know what I am talking about.

But this time I had South Bend Clutch build me a "racing" clutch. I told them what I had and that I was pretty hard on it and they spec'd out a clutch disk and pressure plate modified for the application.

The disk is a Feramic material, supposed to have 10 times the friction coeficient of a stock disk. They also tweak the pressure plate to have more clamping force. At first the disk was pretty wicked. I couldn't let the clutch out with out chirping the tires. But now, after about 2500 miles it has smoothed out a bit, but still holds like a mother.

BTW: IMHO, you should always have the flywheel re-surfaced.
