Dual Shocks?

I am looking at starting to mod my suspension and am running through various options while searching I noticed downey and all pro have dual shock mounts for the second gen. Is there any real benefit to this. btw I don't plan on rock crawling, but I do plan on jumping (dunes) I am more interested in maximizing the flex of the front IFS.

As far as I have read, dual shocks are for the really heavy trucks like fords and chevy's. On light trucks like ours the ride onroad would be pretty rough. If you do plan on jumping it though, maybe you will need them If you have the money though, check out total chaos for some serious prerunner type suspension action.

After this past weekend out with the SD crew, I decided that my shocks are set too soft. I have the choice to re-valve my SAW's to make them stiffer or add a second shock. It was a no brainer, I already have the mounts for a second shock, so I'll put my sponsorship skills to the test and see if I can score a pair of 8" bypass shocks. That way I will still have my soft ride on the road, but during extreme conditions, like catching air, the second shock will kick in and save the day

i am not exactly sure so dont quote me on this but i think the dual shock setup will help you with prerunning. the extra shock will help reduce heat induced shock fade. think of it as 2 shocks will run cooler than 1 shock. check out camburg suspension. i hear its good for prerunning.

if you want dual shocks for the purpose of jumping and prerunning. You will need to get large diameter high flow shocks, like 2.5" swayaway, king, Fox or at least bilstein 7100 and higher. not rancho, procomp or bilstien 5100 or lower. Also the purpose of a bypass is to make your suspension stroke adjustably progressive. Depending on the amount of bypass tubes on the shock you can adjust them to be very soft initially but much more firm in the end. If you add bypass', you want to re-valve your primary shocks (coil overs) really light so they basically become high oil flow coil carriers. allowing the bypass to handle the dampening. It is good to have remote resivoirs or piggyback shocks for high spped as well because the increased oil capacity/flow will prevent fade. Bypass' also have external rebound adjusment which is nice. but at about $1K a pair minimum they aren't cheap. Plus Sway-A-Way doesn't produce 2.5x8 bypasses in any kind of volume, We have one of two pairs known to exist. You can get Fox bypass' however much easier and aslo King. without bypass' it is hard to make the susp. soft enough to feel like its working but hard enough to not bottom out on small jumps.
