drove my neighbors truck tonight
man it shifts so smooth compared to mine, I just had my clutch replaced about 6k miles ago but I can hardly shift without jerking the truck like I'm a n00b at shifting. His truck was sooo smooth it felt almost new, it's a 92 SR5 extended cab 4x4 with 205k on it.
was wondering if there's anything other than the freeplay of the clutch that could be a factor? his engages near the top maybe even up higher than mine (which I think it too high). the mechanic that worked on it was really sloppy though, so I'm just wondering if he could have done something else besides the freeplay wrong? I asked for a toyota clutch, not one of the aftermarket ones...

I had the flywheel resurfaced, but if I let the clutch out slowley the truck kinda stumbles which makes me think bad throwout bearing? if that's not part of the new clutch then my guess is that wasn't replaced.. also makes a high pitched whining sound once it starts to grab, but not before or after that.
of course I asked them all this but they said it felt ok to them, they're not the ones that have to drive it though... and when my old clutch that I actually almost burnt out pulling it up on ramps in 2wd one day actually shifted smoother than this new one... something's not quite right

Anytime you have a big, expensive job, find out what other components in the same general area tend to fail. For instance, when you replace the clutch, replace the throwout bearing, rear engine main seal, and front transmission seal.
A good mechanice would have advised you to do the same. Sorry bud. But if it's this bad now, it's only gonna get worse.Start saving and do it again. :cry:

Check your receipt too and see if he did change the throwout bearing, or if it doesn't say, call them up and ask what it would take to replace a clutch, and what other services they perform while doing this. If they say throwout bearing replacement, and your bearing is bad, then you can take it back to them and tell them to fix it for free, since they didn't do it right the first time.
On a side note, I too recently had my clutch replaced, and miss my old one. This new clutch catches so low in the pedal travel. My old one caught right in the middle of swing. Sometimes, if I am accelerating hard, I grind 3rd gear, cuz my feet are too quick for my hands, I'm still sorta used to getting my foot close to halfway up and having it in third right then...
