First off Hi, I'm new to the forum. I've noticed its mainly 4runners but since this is the best toyota forum that I've came across I figured I would ask the question though its a truck question (the forum title says 4runners & trucks ).

If all goes as planned I should be getting a 1989 Toyota 4x4 xtra cab. Though there are a lot of things I plan on doing to it one of the ideas i'm toy'n with is changing the door panels from the flat bland looking ones to some front 4runner door panels. Mainly because of the addition (sp) of speakers and I want to switch to power windows and locks plus they just look better(I always have liked the interior look of the 4 runners). Has anyone seen this done or am I trying something that is impossible. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I don't know about the door panel for that specific year, however here's a write-up for the 3rd generation 4Runner, just in case it comes in handy:

As for the power window switch, my friend had his manual windows converted to power windows, which the installer said was quite easy. I don't think you should have any problems with it. As far as I know, you basically hook up the power window motors to where the manual crank would have been and wire it up to the switch. The only question is where you're mounting the switch...on the doors or on the console area.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I have read the door panel removal guide and tried to find as much as I could on 2nd gen door panels from the truck. I'm 95% sure I'll be getting the truck all I am waiting on is a inspection of the truck by my Dad. Since its in Dogrun (sp) Virginia and I'm in Kentucky its not easily acessable (sp). As for the wiring, if i can get the 3rd gen 4runner doors on i'll splice into the wiring from the switches on the door panel. 4 years of electronics in high school is going to pay off there heh. Thanks again for the help.

Cool, just a word of caution for you. If you are going to use the 3rd generation panels and do some splicing, call your local Toy dealer and tell them to give you the power window schematic. Because it's all run from the driver-side master control panel, the wiring is a quite confusing w/o the schematic.

Yeah I was reading somewhere that a good idea is to pay the 50 or 60$ for a repair manual direct from toyota. People reviewed it and said it was one of the best things to have next to a manual that can be bought at Pep boys or Autozone. Plus wiring things has never really been a problem with me it all comes pretty natural.

Hi Krash, and welcome to the board. We now have to members with the same name, only the other one is "Crash."

I just snapped some pics of my /91 door panels.
One thing is that the 4Runner doors may not be as long as the truck door due to having 4 doors.
But maybe the interior panels are the same.

I measure across the bottom of the panel just below the arm rest, and it was 34.75" across it that helps you any.

Jim (mytruck) is stopping by soon for me to get pics of his new CB, and I will measure his '89 truck door panels from end to end like I did mine.
Who knows, it might be the same.

Hi Krash, just as I suspected. My door panels were 34.75", and Jim's were around 46" or 47".
He's got the 'lectric door panels on his with the map pockets, and they look nice.
