Doh ! $%*!ing timing belt marks !!!
Bet I am not the first to do this but I put my new timing belt on my 3VZE five times last night before I worked out that the marks on the belt don't line up after you have turned the engine over twice :pat:
Last couple of timing belts I have done did not have marks.... this was the first with marks and every time I would get the belt on, the dang marks would not line up when the camshaft sprocket (pulley) indicators were pointing up.
Sleep depravation led me to not bother checking the crankshaft sprocket.
Anyway, finally, on my 5th attempt, the penny dropped.
There is nothing nicer than the engine firing up for the first time after major maintenance.
I replaced :
Water pump
Timing belt
#1 and #2 idlers (#2 was really bad , rocking side to side on bearing !)
Tensioner
Alt/PS/AC drive belts
New water pump is fine, no leaks and for the first time since I had the truck, the engine sounds great....none of that annoying grinding from the #2 idler and the water pump bearings.
Only casualty was the radiator fan shround.... I got a little punchy by midnight last night and the shround was no match for my superhuman strength
Drove it in the snow this morning which was why I bust my hump to get it finished as my good ole 85 2WD V8 pickemup would have been a little more fun than I could handle early in the day.

Nope, The lines sure dont match up after a couple of turns . I think this bit of information should be included in the install manuals since it might of saved me some time as well.
